Self driving cars is an idea of rich people that never drive anyway
“Self driving cars is an idea of rich people that never drive anyway”
Are people really clamoring for this? I like to drive. Why not autonomous restrooms, where a probe senses discomfort and whisks you off to be roboticly diapered?
Your bias controls your brain.
Not really. I am a dyed in the wool car nut. With over 50 cars registered to me in my life, and currently in possession of a modified Corvette Z06, a hot rod 1970 Opel GT and 4 other rides, I would love one of these.
As a sales rep on the road it would be awesome to program my car to go somewhere then sit back and have an office day along the way. It wont be the end of automotive fun, as a guy who averages 250 miles a day for work it would give me hours to be more productive, or have leisureish time.
Three problems with 'self driving cars'...
1. They are controlled by software, and anything can go wrong.
I do not want to be on the same road with these potential maniacs.
I don't trust anything coming out of Obama Motors.
I still want to know how car insurance will work.
Now- the driver & their individual record & habits are charged accordingly. How will these cars be rated?
Who do I sue if there is an accident?

How does the car know I have to get off the highway & take a leak??? OR get food? Or Whatever. ??
On the contrary.
The rich can afford chauffeurs. Autonomous automobiles will let the hoi polloi (i.e the rest of us) enjoy the same luxury.
I enjoy driving — most of the time. However, i would love to have an AI drive me through congested urban traffic, while I sat back and did just about anything else. If I acquire some driving restrictions, as I get older; then robocars would become essential. They will be far more: comfortable, convenient, and safe than mass transit, or other options available to the non-rich senior.
We’re not “rich”, but we are aging. I see this as a way to extend people’s independence far longer than is normal now. If it is safe, I’m a fan!
