Mark Steyn wrote in his review that the British public (or a sizeable portion of it) was also anti-Churchill and on the side of the Neville Chamberlain appeasement types.
Many Brits supported Hitler, because they were more fearful of Russia, and thought Hitler was a buffer against Communism.
I must say at the time, I can understand how they felt that way, although, of course, with hindsight we know just how bad Hitler really was.
The British also weren’t really up for another world war if it could be avoided because of their loss of a generation of men in WWI. Too bad the world didn’t stop Hitler much earlier.
When Hitler marched into The Rhineland in 1936, he gave orders that if the French so much of fired one shot, they were to come back.
The French never fired a shot, from that point on, Hitler knew that the West didn’t have the stomach for the fight.
