Maudie was fantastic.
Sally Hawkins was perfect. And as for Ethan Hawkins, I have hated him in everything I have ever seen him in...until this movie. He absolutely nailed Everett Lewis, and said far more with his expressions and body language that through the dialog. If there was any justice, there would be talk about Oscars. But it's a small art film.
I had a chance to visit the Halifax last October. The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia has a large Maude Lewis exhibit as well as Everett and Maude's actual house that had been taken apart and reassembled in the museum. Hard to believe that two people could live together in such a small place without killing each other. I don't think I could.
