Erdogan said the operation against the Afrin enclave aims to purge terror from his countrys southern border.
Afrin is controlled by a Syrian Kurdish militia known as the YPG. Turkey considers the YPG to be a terrorist group linked to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) that has waged a bloody insurgency within its borders.
A YPG spokesman in Afrin said clashes erupted after midnight between his unit and Turkish troops near the border with Turkey. Rojhat Roj said the shelling of areas in Afrin district, in Aleppo province, killed one YPG fighter and injured a couple of civilians on Sunday. Turkey and its Western allies, including the U.S., consider the PKK a terrorist organization. But the U.S. has been arming some of Syrias Kurds to defeat the Islamic State group in Syria a sore point in already tense U.S.-Turkish relations.
...
We expect (the U.S.) to support Turkey in its legitimate efforts to combat terror, said Erdogan.

eff you Erdogan, US supports Kurds
Only way for there to be peace in the ME is a gigantic big King of Kings ruling with an iron rod after He destroys the opposition with blood all over His garments. Our front line grunt slaying the demons. Until that time we wait.
A bit of historical perspective:
Turkey and the Kurds during the early days of WWI were both guilty if heinous war crimes against civilian populations i.e. the slaughter of Armenians by Turks and Kurds in Asia Minor in 1915. Among the atrocities - Thousands of Christian girls were crucified.
Of course, one must also be mindful that the Austro-Hungarian empire forces responded to Archduke Ferdinand’ assassination with the brutality customary to that regime, in their much despised Balkan territories. Strangulation by wire on tippy-toes of civilian populations in various cities was a favorite past time in proving their point that they were in fact, in charge after Ferdinand was Assassinated.
If one has never seriously studied the early days of World War I, I would highly recommend it as it shows a brutality somewhat obscured and relatively unknown in the histories that mark that Period.
Endgame rush for territory, as the war heads toward a conclusion.
I hope that we arm the Kurds to the max and support them in teaching the Turks a lesson.
