Yes, guilty as charged I suppose it is. For clarification, I am not referring to Chinese Americans, often they have a harder time in the competitive college admissions process than caucasians do. Specifically international students from China have their ACT and SAT scores inflated by the Chinese government who report the scores to the US college board. My point ( avoiding generalities) is that not all Asian students are STEM geniuses and not all American students are dunces.
I was mostly just rubbing you a bit. But I do think I got both your point and the one of the other poster you replied to. I do think that pointing to the Chinese, who even if theyre cheating, are interested in math and engineering as while many of our students want to stiludy less challenging fields. I also get that your daughter is an exception to the trends were observing. We need more like her.
I know for a fact that at least in Korea, there are after school programs for 3-4 hours that are nothing but SAT and ACT prep classes that kids start taking in what is our 7th grade.
I think that might have a little more to do with their scores instead of partying, drinking, soccer, football, baseball and cheerleading experts that most American high schools produce for colleges.
Think about how smart a kid would be if instead of playing sports he spent that time studying.
There are many Chinese students whose parents are high level military or are very well connected who come to the US for college. I hear some of them are not well prepared.
