Pentagon: Troops Will Not Be Paid if Government Shuts Down this Week
Breitbart ^ | 17 Jan 2018 | Kristina Wong

Troops will not receive a paycheck this Friday if Congress fails to pass a budget or another short-term spending measure by then, according to the Pentagon.

Troops will have to continue reporting for duty and will accrue pay, but cannot be paid until the actual money is appropriated, said Pentagon spokesman Christopher Sherwood in a statement to Breitbart News on Tuesday.

President Trump is not able to exempt troops from a government shutdown, he said.

Democrats want to prevent troops from being paid in order to help illegals.

So what a sec. There was a statute that let the military continue to operate during shutdowns that has been on the books for years. When did it go away?

I don’t recall ever hearing that it had been done away with.

Republicans need to grow balls and hammer that point home.

Illegals are more important to the Democrats then the hard working men and women risking their lives to keep this country and the world safe.

Hammer them with it

Why can’t we make the Democrats eat this?

Things just never change.

I remember as a young sailor under Carter having something like this happen, even way back then - no budget and we weren't going to get paid...

No idea what the deal was. Was not politically aware back then.

Maybe a statute that let the military continue to operate during shutdowns does not include getting a paycheck.

Technically, the shutdown would NOT start until midnight, Friday night, the END of the 24 hour day.

This is pay for hours already earned. Technically, they have earned this pay. \

Don’t think this has been thought out.

IF I had to shut down a private company, I definately would HAVE to pay them for hours worked & accrued sick pay & vacation pay up to the shutdown minute.

That is not the way it was portrayed in years past.

They would have to pass a single stand alone bill to exempt the military funding from the shutdown.

We'll see what happens

Historically, it has not been good to not pay the army. Bad things tend to happen to governments throughout history that go down that road.

Mark my word folks, if there’s a way to do it, McConnell and Ryan will join the Democrats casting this as a Trump caused problem.

I may be wrong, but I think they are that craven.

That's funny, the Pentagon was able to find trillions of dollars to lose that wasn't even allocated to it...

The Rats wouldn’t care...but if SSDI recipients suffering from “chronic anxiety disorder” are denied that’s a problem.

This happened when I was in the Army under Clinton and a Republican controlled Congress as well. I think it brought about some entitlement reform.
