This woman’s analysis of the difference between Western culture and others (here it is African/Moslem) is one of the best articles I have read on the subject (by someone who was there).

I got my degree and some graduate work in Anthropology, so I understand what she is talking about. And I understand what Pres. Trump was trying to say (to a pack of overeducated, anthropologically-challenged reporters, for the most part).

I saw first hand in So. Vietnam that a culture which is basically much different from ours can adopt the best that we can offer them in terms of bettering their lives (the use of fertilizer for increased crop yields and more harvest; the use of small boat propeller devices to pump water up the levels of rice paddies; the use of small rototillers to get the planting and harvesting done much more quickly than to do it all by hand; the use of plastic-sealed land deeds for new land owners; the use of gasoline generators to light up a village, etc).

Africa, despite having had British, French, Spanish, German, Italian, and a little Portuguese influences over the centuries, is still about two centuries behind the times economically, about 1000 years behind the times re their Islamic religion, and politically about 75 years behind the times re national organization and administration.

There are a few African countries that once had made it but Marxist/socialist and assorted political dictators (Nkrumah, any leader of the Sudan, Eritrea, the Red Terror in Ethiopia, the Odinga Marxist/Islamic mob in Kenya, Mugabe in Zimbabwe, the Marxists in So. Africa, and the various tribal dictators of western/middle Africa, plus Gaddafi), show that they are not able, for the most part, to become westernized in the traditional sense, either there or here.

Compare them to the So. Koreans, So. Vietnamese, Laotians and Cambodians who have adapted to American life while maintaining the good of their native cultures. I worked with S. Vietnamese refugees in the 1970’s and our organization decided to help them “acculturize and acclimatize” to life in the U.S. by showing them how to shop in supermarkets, fill out forms, publish their own newspapers (ours was bilingual), to learn English, etc.

You can’t take a camel herder and make him into an auto mechanic if he doesn’t know how a car or truck works. It’s that simple. You can teach him how to fix his own truck in his own country and set up a small business to help others (hiring people and training some).

We didn’t need any more Third World shit-holes in America. We already have enough in No/West Philadelphia, West and Central Baltimore, Cleveland, Minneapolis, Detroit, S. F and LA, and parts of Chicago, among other cities.

My sister says the best workers and sharpest nurses she works with are from Nigeria... better even than native born Americans in terms of maturity, responsibility and even the English language.
They don’t waste time or ignore patients while playing with essential oils diffusers, and they are conservative and proud of having citizenship here.
The reason they are so well-educated is that they attended English-style schools and studied hard because they seriously want to improve the lives of their families back home who saved everything they had to get them through school and over here legally.
And they are royally ticked off at illegal immigrants being allowed to cut in line, and are not fond of Islam because they have seen it first hand.
So some Africans off the boat are more than capable of making it here and assimilating, but I’d suggest that applies mostly to those who were schooled in English style schools the way these were, people who want freedom to succeed and are not looking to milk the system.
