With DARKEST HOUR in cinemas, what if Churchill faced the same level of health scrutiny as Trump
Dail Mail ^ | January 18, 2018 | Richard Littlejohn

Whatever you think about Donald Trump, his main achievement has been to utterly discombobulate his enemies, especially the mainstream media in America.

If sometimes we think that the BBC dresses a little too far to the Left, try watching the Washington press pack in full flow. They believe it is their constitutional duty to destroy the democratically elected President by any means possible.

He's been accused of racism, sexism and colluding with the Russians to steal the presidential election, which bizarrely they also claim he never wanted to win in the first place. Go figure.

Like our own die-hard Remainers, any lie will do for the Never Trumpers. Their latest line of attack is to claim he is mentally ill, in the early stages of Alzheimer's, and therefore unfit for office.

If anyone is displaying signs of advanced mental illness, it's the mudslingers themselves, in their increasingly deranged desperation to find something, anything, which will bring down the President.

This got me wondering how the Great Man Churchill would have fared had he been subjected to the same kind of scrutiny and hostility that Trump is today.

If Churchill's personal physician had been forced to reveal the Prime Minister's medical results, food, drink and drugs consumption, Winston wouldn't only have been declared unfit for office, he'd probably have been sectioned.

Yes, Finney was great.

That movie has great beginning and ending scenes.

I’m glad at least two of us appreciate that movie.

Joseph P. Kennedy, the American ambassador to the Court of St. James, was brought home because of his pro Nazi sentiments.

“Moosechelle would have told Sir Winston to put out his cigar.”

Imagine what Hillary would have told him to do with it.

The Dems are really into cigars——just not smoking them.:-)

Not only that...some in England wanted to sue for terms with Germany!
The Fall of France focused a lot of minds. One thing to think about it from across thousands of miles away from the Wehrmacht. Quite another when the Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe are across a few miles of the English Channel. I think it is fair to say that only the hope of US intervention kept Britain in the war.

Understand, NOBODY but the Germans wanted any part of a second world war. The first had been entirely sufficient. The Munich sellout was popular. Not just in Britain, it polled 80% in the US, too. Basically, no one in Britain thought that France would fall - and anyone who did, would have thought long and hard before agreeing to participate in the fight.

And during the night of Dec. 7. 1941, Winston Churchill slept well. Most in England slept better than they had in years that night.

Winston Churchill : I’m the new First Lord.

Military Guard : We know, sir.

Winston Churchill : How do you know?

Military Guard : A signal was sent to the fleet this afternoon, sir.

Winston Churchill : What signal?

Military Guard : “Winston is back.”

Winston Churchill : [chuckles] And so he bloody well is!

That was a great scene.

Most people today could not comprehend it.

To say I adore, respect, and admire Winston is not enough. He was awesome.

So, I go to the link and read:

the lacklustre leadership of exceedingly sane men as Neville Chamberlain,

Chamberlain was the one who was "nuts". Or at least blind.

No. Chamberlain was sane, according to the author. Logically or sanely, Hitler should have stuck by the deal. He could he incrementally done what he wanted to do. Instead, Hitler, a mentally unbalanced person wanted all now (a two front war with Russia in the winter?). Essentially, you had a relatively sane person believing he could come to an arrangement with an insane person. Churchill recognized you could not reason with nut jobs. Churchill saw this with the Muslim nations as well. The author contends that Churchill’s pathologies made him well suited in that particular instance in history to address the issue of Hitler.
