11-Year-Old Illinois Girl...Medical Marijuana Case
ktla ^ | 01/22/2018

Ashley was a toddler in December 2008, when she was diagnosed with childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Her doctors gave the little girl several rounds of chemotherapy and spinal injections to fight the cancer. The treatment sent her cancer into remission, but one of the spinal injections triggered seizures. She’s been plagued by debilitating seizures since the age of 2, and remained on a number of medications with several serious side effects....

...

To the Surins, the patch and the oil seemed simple and straight forward. Ashley gets what looks like a small bandage on her foot twice a day. They rub lotion on her wrist from a tube that looks like lip balm, her dad said. If she does have a seizure, she gets a small drop of oil on her tongue.

It’s the cannabidiol in the cannabis that keeps seizures at bay, not tetrahydrocannabinol, known as THC — the marijuana drug that gets people high. But the law in Illinois, at least when it comes to schools, doesn’t allow even the prescription version at school.

Unlike with a diabetic child who needs help from an adult at school to administer insulin, a nurse or teacher could lose his or her license if they helped Ashley with her prescription. And if Ashley wore her patch to school, she or her parents could technically face criminal prosecution. Marijuana of any kind, including medical, is not allowed on school grounds, school buses or at school-related events.'

While sympathetic, and a criminal prosecution would be unlikely, the district said it felt it had to follow the law the way it was written. That meant Ashley’s parents would have had to keep her out of class or take the school to court. In the mean time, she had to stay out of school, missing a couple of weeks of class.

That same school will defy federal immigration laws by harboring illegal aliens.

This isn't medical marijuana - it's a non-psychoactive extract. Only acute Reefer Madness hysteria stands in the way of this little girl getting the medicine she needs.

Amen to that. People suffer because Dems and Republicans in Congress won't act to decriminalize? Terrible.

Happy for the child that the parents found something that works.

They won’t even decriminalize to spite Sessions and Trump.

Let that sink in.

Cui bono?

And by what mechanism?

Most medicines have been derived from plants, one way or another.

But those who cry loudest and most frequently about he difficulty the suffering have obtaining medical cannabis relief are the "recreational" users who see it as step one in legalizing general usage.

If we make the users responsible for the consequences of their usage, then no harm, no foul. But you know what will happen. When a percentage of users have toked themselves into befuddled unemployability their behavior will be designated a disease and they'll go on the public dole. That means you and I will be paying for them. I can't speak for you, but I don't want to pay for them!

That is not reality. People you know now that you view as very productive and successful in their career toke regularly.

here is what makes it a difficult topic, just by looking can you tell which person has an addictive personality? There is truth in the statement that Cannabis is a gateway drug. It is for many, and that is a very big issue in the debate to legalization. yes there are many regular tokers that are productive professionals, but there is already a growing base of data that shows a higher risk from the use of Marijuana too.

I personally don't care what people do in the privacy of their own homes, but marijuana, like alcohol or other drug use is not always confined to the home.

That being said, and getting back to the topic, I hope there can be a solution found for those like this child that get legitimate medical relief from cannabis.

Are they the ones to whom I referred? I'm talking about the stoners I'll be unwillingly supporting. It's already happened- with alcohol. Alcoholism is a BEHAVIOR that has been designated a DISEASE. Most drinkers are not alcoholics or abusers, but those who are get subsidized for their "illness".

Big Pharma doctors hate competition of inexpensive marijuana.

Republicans want to harm your organs with pharma side effects, so Sessions go ban that cheap weed.

Go read the definition of "non-psychoactive" ... move your lips if it helps. Then wipe the egg off your face.

CBD oil does NOT have THC in it, and it stops seizures and it’s legal (prescription).

LEFT: Instead of giving her relief - let her suffer so we can get it legal to smoke dope.

That has already happened. And there's no reason to expect an increase with legalization, because the new smokers are people responsible enough not to have smoked when it was illegal.

“”But the law in Illinois,””

That should send us all into fits of laughter. Since when does IL carry about laws? We have that state to thank for the miserable 8 years we spent with obozo - who gave not a fig for laws...Hillary? Durbin? Jackson, Jr.? Emanuel? Not to mention the hundreds of murders on their streets each and every week. But help for a poor child - nope - the bureaucrats have to dig in their heels...

Then any legalization law should specify that no public resources will be spent dealing with the consequences of said law. Is that fair enough?
