U.S. Navy’s Newest Littoral Combat Ship Stuck in Ice for Winter

January 24, 2018 by gCaptain

The U.S. Navy’s newest Littoral Combat Ship, USS Little Rock, will have to spend its winter up north instead of Florida’s warmer waters after the ship became stuck in ice in Montreal.

The USS Little Rock, which was commissioned in Buffalo, New York on December 16, should be well on its new homeport in Mayport, Florida by now, but a delayed departure and colder-than-normal temps across the region means the ship is now stuck in Montreal indefinitely.

Commissioned a month ago. Now stuck in the ice for the winter.

Well, it doesn't suck as much as the Titanic which sank on its maiden voyage. So it's got that going for it.

Maybe they can call a Russian icebreaker to help.

“When I think about those nights in Montreal
I get the sweetest thoughts of you and me.

I just want to stop
And wait for the summer
I just want to stop
The water has become solid
I just want to stop
For your love.”

On the upside, Montreal is a great place to be stuck.

Never mind

Even the greatest South Pole explorer got his ship stuck in ice for the winter...Robert Scott, the Discovery, 1903...

My granddad was there on one of the supply ships...the Morning...

Since it is a “combat” ship of the littoral type, I wonder what it’s shorthand classification is?

Exactly, I can think of a lot of places to be stuck worse than Montreal. Some of the guys from our office go there every year for a convention. They always love it. That is if you like great food and beautiful women.

Does the Navy have it's own nautical version of the term 'massive fustercluck' ?

Gotta figure somebody's gonna end up workin' on the mess deck over this 'port call'.

Muslims are offended by the idea of a Littoral ship and want it removed.

On the up side, if they are stuck in ice they aren’t out getting rammed by freighters.
