You know what else would hurt, big time?
Make it known the US Navy will no longer freely protect international shipping without compensation. If a shipping nation wants its merchant vessels to come under the USN protective umbrella, there will be an insurance cost that must be paid, or they can pay for their own navies. Just how much do USN surface ships alleviate global piracy? Why does the US taxpayer cover the entire cost of the worlds consumption of that critical service?
