I know nobody who cared about the government shutdown. A couple diehard liberals I know tried to rally the troops on FB with trump-bashing posts about the horrors of the shutdown but the response was crickets and tumbleweeds.
also the Democrat base was livid with Pelosi and Schumer last year for going along with budgets that didnt address DADA(didnt shutdown the government) , they shouted Pelosi off a stage and posted Democrats names who voted for the December CR on a page called ‘Immigration Traitors’
Unfortunately for Pelosi and Schumer they are still livid that they caved after only 2+1/2 hours of the shutdown.
They are ‘fired up’ now.

Oh please. Virginia was the southernmost state to go for Clinton in the presidential election. Then, the GOP candidate for Governor was widely seen as pro-amnesty and as a GOP-e man.
This writer may be correct that the party members may have gotten whipped up, but Virginia is just a sounding board for their party, sadly.

For a “former Democrat who claims to be a Republican, he sure sounds a lot like he’s still a Democrat. The GOP made Congressional gains after the 2013 shutdown, despite being blamed fr it. I’d take that result again in a heartbeat in 2018 midterms
