From Publishing the Pentagon Papers to Suppressing the Nunes Memo
The Spectator ^ | 1 February 2018 | Geroge Neumayr

What happened to the media’s love of releasing government secrets? In anticipation of the release of the Nunes memo, the media’s servile and sanctimonious treatment of objecting government agencies grows more and more absurd. Suddenly, the admirers of Daniel Ellsberg are shills for suppressing government secrets. These are the same pundits who told everyone to go see The Post, Hollywood’s nostalgic tribute to the release of the Pentagon Papers. Have they changed their minds? . . . snip

Watergate started with a third-rate burglary; Obamagate originated in third-rate “intelligence.” Hillary partisans such as John Brennan and Loretta Lynch, assuming the worst about the Trump campaign, sent the FBI down the sorry trail that led to Steele and Hillary’s financed dossier. From this debacle came the next outrage, an outgoing administration spying on an incoming one, which in turn produced another one: an embittered campaign by the ruling class to hobble and impeach a president.

Not an overly long read and well-recommended.

Puts into clear perspective all the smoke-and-mirrors, double-talk and parsel tongue coming from the media and deep state over the memo.

Enjoy

The FBI sounds a lot like it doesn’t want it to be heard that it can go after someone with utter garbage. It’ll lose its Sphynxian powers.

I love how the media holds up the FBI as some beacon of light. It’s one of the most corrupt organizations in history. Trump really does need to rename the building just to piss them off.

Paiul Rico.
John Connelly.
Jimmy Bulger.

Just a microcosm.

Daniel Ellsberg was on Coast 2 Coast last night. I get bad vibes from him. Could tell he hates Trump, probably all Republicans although he claimed he served under several presidents, both parties. A lot was about nuclear arms, how we wouldn't have had to bomb Japan and the dangers of nukes. He didn't have kind words for Kim Jong I but I got the impression that we were to absorb an attack on American cities rather than a pre-emptive strike.

Now maybe I'd better read the article.

Chelsea Manning is a hero for leaking top secret information and received high praise from many in the media....

Nothing has changed...

This falls under the category of “Whose ox is being gored.”

So let’s not get too sanctimonious, but let’s definitely gore THEIR ox this time!

Beltway bureaucratic Washington recognizes four levels of classified information—confidential, secret, top secret, and embarrassing to the agency. Guess which one they will guard with their lives?

A reminder regarding The Pentagon Papers. It was the Pentagon's assessment of the Vietnam war done during the Johnson years (I'm guessing late in his term). It pointed out a lot of failures.

Nixon - being a patriot, sought to keep these top secret files secret, as there release would be harmful to the war effort, and harmful to America. I'm pretty certain that if it it had been the other way around (Dem president and Republican prior), the Dem would have used the Papers as political ammo against the prior administration.

Media only support transparency when issues surrounding Republican party not their own party.

I'm pretty sure your statement was rhetorical. It's pretty easy to understand the double-standard. The challenge is in getting the left's useful idiots to acknowledge that double-standard.

We don’t want a nation where the secret police can lie to judges, fabricate evidence, gain illegal wiretaps and seek to destroy a presidency because they are aligned with another political party.

If that is the case, the FBI has to be brought low. Democracy and the Rule of Law are the backbone of our nation. The leaders of the FBI have violated their oaths, and chose sides in a political battle. They have endangered the freedom of Americans.

I would hope that a lot of people are going to be suspended, fired or doing the perp walk when this comes out.

I have read and heard of thousands of sealed indictments and while this may be normal it might be an indicator of things to come.

I know that Jeff Sessions catches a lot of grief on FR, but, after watching President Trump this past year, in my opinion any “lightweights” or “girly boys” would have been shown the door a long time ago.

The Chinese say “My you live in interesting times”. I lived through a few of those in my many summers on this rock and think this may be the dozy of them all!

“.......The media has their entire future invested in the Democrat Party.”...

So you’re suggesting we will get two birds with one stone when/if the report ever gets released? If true, I might even open a beer and celebrate.
