Father lunges at Larry Nassar in court before being restrained

The father of three daughters who were abused by Larry Nassar tried to attack the former doctor in an Eaton County, Michigan, court Friday before he was tackled and arrested by security. Randall Margraves said he was a "distraught father" and cursed at Nassar, but Judge Janice Cunningham told him that was not allowed in court. He then asked the judge for personal time alone with the "demon." "I would ask you, as part of the sentencing, to grant me five minutes in a locked room with this demon," he asked. "Would you give me one minute?"

The judge declined, saying, "That's not how our legal system works." "Well, I'm going to have to," Margraves responded, and he launched into a sprint toward Nassar. Randall Margraves, father of three victims of Larry Nassar, lunged at Nassar, bottom right, on Friday in Eaton County Circuit Court in Michigan. Randall Margraves, father of three victims of Larry Nassar, lunged at Nassar, bottom right, on Friday in Eaton County Circuit Court in Michigan. Security rushed to stop him and grabbed him from behind before he was able to reach Nassar. "I want that son of a b****!" the man yelled as he was being detained. "Give me one minute with that bastard." He added, "What if this happened to you guys?" The incident sparked harsh words from Michigan Assistant Attorney General Angela Povilaitis in court. "You cannot behave like that," she said. "No one can behave like this. I want to make sure it's crystal clear."

The mother and father are not to blame.

But damn, you are exactly right. I take my son to his appointments and my wife takes the girl to her appointments and we are in the room or very near by.

Moreover, there is no way a child can be molested and that not manifest immediately in a manner that the parents should notice.

The doctor is a bastard criminal.

The parents failed in their responsibility.

And yes, child molesters seek children who have parents that are disconnected from the reality of being a parent.

This was the infamous Olympic gymnastic team case.

Nasser got nodded and winked at on several levels. One of them was the prioritization of an Olympic career over blowing the whistle. Why isn’t the man angry at his daughter for not blowing a whistle that could have saved many? Sauce for goose is sauce for gander.

I watched the video; if nothing else I hope he caused the perp a moment of terror that someone was about to get even, with his words and then by charging him. He’ll have that to think about when he’s in prison a million years.

He knew the court would not allow it. And if it had, he’d have a lawsuit.

Sorry, these things must be referred to God. God can be maddeningly (to men) even handed. Why didn’t the father teach his daughters that some things are more important than even Olympics? Too little, too late, wrong way.

A smart DA wouldn’t even pursue it...

Frankly I would have granted the father his request... why pay to feed and house this guy for 40 years.... Let his victims disembowel him and force feed him his own entrails until he dies.

I wish I could have helped buy him ammo. And provide his alibi.

He should have been a little more tuned into his family and not let “that bastard” spend one minute with his daughters.

Some parents played a horrible role in their daughters being abused by Nasser. But this is a dad vs a daughter’s doctor appt. I don’t think that is fair. Most dads of teen girls do NOT accompany their daughters to the appointments and are not comfortable with their teen daughters naked. If you must put blame anywhere, place it on the mom. I will NEVER make my daughter go in alone to a doctor after this.

Not dirtbag just logical. It’s another way of posing the question: why did he let them think Olympic career uber alles? The right answer is to flee if possible, and be adamant: FIX this or I quit. The girls were doing worldly moral calculus. It was all narrowly about them.

Goslings, Redneck. Children. If I had been the victim of a non-injurious split-second molestation as a child I probably wouldn’t have said anything, especially if it had been a doctor. Was that supposed to happen, I would think. Or I would have been too ashamed. I was always too ashamed to act when I was groped as a teenager.

Thanks Red Badger. I'm a big fan of capital punishment. Michigan banned it a very long time ago. The appropriate punishment I'd advocate for this creepy doctor would also, alas, be unconstitutional because it would be cruel and unusual. It's so bad, I'm not going to share the details.

It might be ‘unusual’, but I don’t think it would be ‘cruel’, and certainly not BOTH..................

Larry Nasser is one of the whitest white men in Michigan.

The mom had a responsibility to monitor the doctor with their daughter.

However, both parents had the responsibility to notice changes in their daughters’ personality and mood after they were molested.

Few of Nasser’s victims had any chance of becoming Olympians and they knew it. They were ordinary gymnasts, dancers, and young women athletes at MSU. There is a 20 year record of victims, mostly older teens, speaking up and being hushed.

Too difficult to be sure of. I know all about it. If the child doesn’t want you to know it is hard to figure it out. I believe only total benign supervision works.

So that makes the circle of silence more inexcusable, not less.

Someone has to be willing to take the not-easy path for the greater good. This evil was far from only being Nasser. If it had been, Nasser would quickly have been squelched. Satan is a cunning choreographer in running interference for his own work.

Trying to keep things open enough with a son or daughter that he or she isn’t embarrassed to tell you if something abnormal happened is the wisest tack.

I know when a certain problem happened when I was young, I didn’t dare tell my parents. I wrote to an advice columnist. I don’t know what happened to the letter but I never heard back.

Yeah, I don’t know if you have kids yet or not, but very often they don’t seek out parents for sexual issues. I know I did not.

I stress with my younger kids that if anyone does anything that makes them feel uncomfortable, that person is wrong and they might need to be stopped or get in trouble before they hurt others. So tell mom or the teacher or someone safe.

But this Nasser. He was molesting little girls as part of what he made seem to be a necessary exam or treatment. They had no idea they were being used for his jollies. Poor things.
