I was taught that if I was truly contrite upon death I would go up not down.
What I actually believe is another thing … but I don’t share it in open forum
You have to confess your sins, ask for forgiveness, believe in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus and accept Him as your Lord and Savior.
That's not what the Bible teaches.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. (John 5:24)
He that is trusting in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross will be saved. But the unbelieving have a different fate...
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:13-15)
Eternal torment in the lake of fire awaits the unbelieving who want to be judged based on their own works.
