Some people have bizarre gaps in knowledge. Years ago I had a conversation with someone I knew who was of Nicaraguan descent, was fluent in Spanish, and naturally thought she knew more than a mere “anglo” like me about Central America.
She said MS-13 was a gang from Guatemala (maybe she said it was Honduras). I explained to her that the gang was actually El Salvadoran, formed by Salvadorans who had been deported from Los Angeles back to San Salvador. She insisted I was wrong. I was right. At least she was humble enough to admit when she went online to prove I was wrong and discovered I was right!
