BAYONNE -- Ten years after first renting out the basement of the St. Henry's Church school for prayer services, the Bayonne Muslim community will finally get have their own place of worship on the east side of town. It's been a long road for the Bayonne Muslims, whose controversial application to build a community center and mosque was denied last year amid ardent resistance from a segment of the town's population.

But after filing a federal lawsuit against the city, which the group settled Wednesday for $400,000, the application now only needs to be publicly approved at a hearing in late February.

From the purchase of the property to Wednesday news of the settlement, here's a timeline of the controversial mosque saga:

To be fair, this kind of thing is happening all over New Jersey with Orthodox Jewish communities, too. Give it 10 years, and New Jersey will be looking like the West Bank.

Bomb-making classes in the morning. Truck driving school in the afternoon. What’s not to like? //

I’ve no clue where Bayonne is? My first thought was France. Looking at article maybe Louisiana? I’ve quite often its assumed the reader knows where a place is.

Islam is a geopolitical cult of conformance or death — not a legitimate religion. Trump should put a general halt to all immigration for the duration of his presidency.

The most famous Bayonne is New Jersey. I believe it can be seen from Manhattan. Surprised Gov. Christie hadn’t sold it to Muslims long ago.

Sorry, but meant to credit Jersey Journal , but the url shows nj.com & Hudson . Bayonne is south of Jersey City (with 25 years of links to infamous Muslims events).

Bayonne used to have a thriving Polish community, lot of friends and relatives there back in the day. Sad to see it this way.

Now we are all for freedom of religion, except that Islam is not a religion in the accepted sense of the word, it is a collection of ideological cults, some in bitter dispute with others of their number. These ideological cults all have one thing in common, the spread of their teachings through subversion, deceit and outright confrontation by armed might and threats of retaliation or sentences of death for those who do not wish to convert.

In a rational world, the city of Bayonne, using community standards, should not have to approve the construction of a mosque, as it violated customary standards of the locality. And if you think this reliance on community standards is not a compelling reason for the practitioners of Islam, try importing copies of the Old Testament and the New Testament into Saudi Arabia, and construct a church anywhere there.

Islam has set the rules of engagement when it comes to setting up “mission” houses of worship. Their way, or the highway, and no middle options are permitted.

The article ends with blaming Trump supporters. I moved out of my home town, Bayonne, 37 years ago, because there weren’t many non-democrats and it is much worse now.

I understand that this new mosque is right next door to Ralph Cramden’s Royal Order of Racoons Lodge Hall.

I worked with a woman from Bayonne who was gorgeous. All of her friends and a few other women I met from Bayonne were hotties too. Seems unlikely but the pattern was obvious. I doubt it’s still that way.

"Looking like the West Bank"? What do you mean by that?

There have been recent lawsuits by Orthodox Jews in NJ protesting the illogical failure of Mahwah city pols to give permission for them to erect a thin piece of wire on telephone poles delineating the limits of the Jewish neighborhood, despite being given permission by the utility company. These pieces of wire delineate an area called an eruv. The wire enclosing the neighborhood permits observant Jews to carry small items such as house keys on the Sabbath, during which it is forbidden to carry things from one domain to another. The wire, way up high with the telephone wires, converts the entire neighborhood into one domain and so allows the carrying of things within. It was a simple blatant case of antisemitism which was won in court by the Orthodox group.

I was referring to similar cases where the same Federal civil rights laws are being used by Jewish groups to get zoning variances as the Muslims are. Imagine that. And these places invariably tend to become real sh!t-holes very quickly. Take a ride through Bayonne or Lakewood to see for yourself. It seems like thsee religious groups — along with illegal aliens — are the only people who actually want to live in New Jersey anymore ... hence the “West Bank” comment.

What about the people in Mahwah who don’t want to live in the eruv?

Do you look up at the telephone or electrical wires as you walk? Do they bother you? I bet not. The wire put up to delineate an eruv is just about as noticeable. In fact, if you don't know what you're looking at, you'd miss it. It is a symbolic way of combining all the little domains between buildings into one big domain so that observant Jews may carry things on the Sabbath without breaking the edict against carrying objects from one domain to another. If you are a non-Jew or a non-observant Jew, the eruv will make absolutely no difference in your life. To claim otherwise is ridiculous.
