GOP lawmakers from Ohio are pressing President Trump to uphold a promise to reverse former President Obama's decision and rename the Alaskan mountain Denali to its old name, Mt. McKinley.
In a letter to Trump, the 11 lawmakers say it was "disrespectful" for Obama to change the name of the mountain, which had been named after William McKinley, a former president from Ohio. The mountain was named after the 25th president in 1896.
"President William McKinley's legacy should not be compromised by a political stunt," the letter signed by Rep. Bob Gibbs (R-Ohio) and other lawmakers stated.

Wait... I was in that part of Alaska in 1997, and all the locals were calling it Denali even back then. So what’s the hoopla all about?
“Like it never happened”
I’m surprised he didn’t just order it re-named `Mt. Obama’.
Indians (”indigenous people”) not withstanding, change it back to what most Americans know it as: Mt. McKinley.
Let them name one of the many mountains in Ohio Mt. McKinley.
Yep. Official Alaska called it Denali since 1975 and locals always called it that. One of the first things a friend who moved to Alaska years told me he was surprised by when he settled in Alaska.
What a crock of sh*t. No one knows what it was called 500 years ago, let alone 10,000 years ago.
Will it now be the Yukon McKinley?
...or the largest pile of manure!
being funny.
Campbell Hill (Ohio) Campbell Hill is, at 1,550 feet (472 m), the highest point in elevation in the U.S. state of Ohio.

I truly wish this was our biggest problem. The name of a pile of rocks does not keep me up at night.
It is probably best to name something else McKinley.
“What a crock of sh*t. No one knows what it was called 500 years ago, let alone 10,000 years ago.”
Sure they do. It was referenced thousands of times in the written language spanning all across north and south america next to the instructions on how to build a wheel, calculate the circumference of a circle, and brew beer.
It is their land.
Agreed.
"McKinley is so offensive!"
We taxpayers recently rebuilt some park restrooms- maybe we should name them for hussein?
I doubt that will be on Trump’s priority list. It should be obvious he has prioritized a plan and is working the plan. Extraneous stuff is a no never mind.
“Let Alaskans decide.”
Ditto.
It is their state, their mountain, let them decide.
And I much prefer Idlewild.
It’s been known as McKinley for decades. Look at the Africans that have renamed countless roads, streets, flags, and other monuments, besides destroying 100s across the country. Also look at the naming of streets, schools, monuments by the thousands after a philandering, plagiarizing black preacher.
