GOP lawmakers from Ohio are pressing President Trump to uphold a promise to reverse former President Obama's decision and rename the Alaskan mountain Denali to its old name, Mt. McKinley.
In a letter to Trump, the 11 lawmakers say it was "disrespectful" for Obama to change the name of the mountain, which had been named after William McKinley, a former president from Ohio. The mountain was named after the 25th president in 1896.
"President William McKinley's legacy should not be compromised by a political stunt," the letter signed by Rep. Bob Gibbs (R-Ohio) and other lawmakers stated.

I remember that!
“Khrushchev’s due at Idlewild!
Car 54, Where Are You?”
:-)
Having lived in Anchorage, and on exceptionally clear days enjoying a view of Denali, the great one on the northern horizon, It was always a sight to behold, a mountain, some 130 miles away visible as it was.
It was Denali in the words of the local people long before the 25th president was even thought of. The temporary name was an affront to true Alaskans.
Maybe we can call it “Bubba”.
The only reason they renamed is because they couldn’t tear it down.
Or rename it to Mt Denial in honor of the Dems.
Ah yes,. Before Kennedy airport was named that, it was Idlewild.
Many places were renamed to honor Kennedy.
Naming places all depends on who or what people are wanting to honor.
Many of us are frustrated that Saigon became ho chi Minh City, but the we all were happy to see Leningrad changed back to St. Petersburg after the fall of communism.
MLK streets are the one positive accomplishment of urban Democrats.
Just think about itif it werent for MLK streets, people might cross into ghettos without warning.
“Or the largest pile of manure”.
Only if you were to visit!
We would rather you stay in your state and enjoy the largest pile of fags and homos.
Boulder dam, Hoover dam. Political egos on display.
Yep good point about Hoover Dam. I’m sure we can all find other examples.
National Airport in Washington, DC became Reagan National.
The Northwest Expressway in Chicago became the Kennedy Expressway.
The Congress Expressway in Chicago became the Eisenhower Expressway.
D.C. Stadium in Washington became RFK Stadium.
Speaking of stadiums, now their naming depends on which corporation has ponied up the cash for naming rights.
I’m sure we could all fill up many threads, of places which were renamed for one reason or another.
Who's GMC??
now their naming depends on which corporation has ponied up the cash for naming rights.

Would rather have that than just name something after someone just to weewee the other side off.
Would much rather see a USS Master Card than a USS BO -think of the possibilities of that one(used to be a ship named the Brinkley Bass and other ships would take to painting or covering of the B’s...)
Don’t think WE aren’t going to pay for the USS’s Reagan, Ford & Bush....
Already got ‘stuck’ with Harvey Milk, Cesar Chavez, Giffords etc etc etc
Ford was bad enough but to name the whole CLASS after him.
Things were ‘fine’ when Subs were named for fish, carriers for battles, Battleships for States, Cruisers for Cities, Destroyers for ‘legitimate’ heroes’Phibs for Counties, Tugs for Indian Tribes, Ammo ships for Volcanoes etc etc etc
Naming a ship, building, mountain etc is to memorialize the person or event, this naming ANYTHING for a living person - UNLESS they own the building - just doesn’t make any good ‘sense’.
Government Motors
Thank you.
And Squaw Creek in Nebraska.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_streets_named_after_Martin_Luther_King_Jr.
Never knew how HUGE list was.
Will all of the commemorative quarters be invalidated?
Let the people in Alaska name their own mountains.
People in Ohio, find a mountain and name it McKinley.
Don’t we have better things to do?
Shit down, shut up , and get back to work
“Lets go back to Squaw Peak in Arizona too, while were at it!”
What about renaming the Tetons. Isn’t that sexist (it really was named after tits).
