Many questions remain, but Democrats, including Obama, are probably not going to look good when we get the answers.

So far, all Carter Page has been found guilty of is momentarily working for the Trump campaign. His likely future lawsuits against Steele, Fusion GPS, the Clinton campaign, the FBI, and the DOJ will probably follow a number of avenues.

Carter Page will soon be a very rich man.....................

A more likely supposition is that it was not Page’s past flirtations with the Russians (who supposedly dubbed him an “idiot”) that abruptly brought him back into the sights of the DOJ and FBI in 2016.

Side note: I have heard in several places that 'idiot' is the best possible label for a real intelligence agent.

This is a finely written article by Victor David Hanson, professor of history at Stanford.

I encourage all FReepers to read it in its entirty.

Excerpt:
At some distant point, investigators and the media will conclude that the nexus of wrongdoing was likely Barack Obama himself. Aside from the massaged investigations of Hillary Clinton’s wrongdoing, during the election of 2016 and the Trump transition of November 2016 to January 2017, Obama allowed his DOJ and the FBI to manipulate the FISA courts to surveille an American citizen and indirectly target others. He then made sure such data were disseminated among as many administration hands as possible. And he further allowed his subordinates to unmask surveilled citizens, whose identities and (in some cases conversations) were ultimately leaked to news organizations.

Shortly before the election, VDH clearly was not a fan of Trump, but even then he was intellectual and objective.

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/441397/democratic-hypocrisy-never-trump-sanctimony

VDH on Candidate Trump October 25, 2016

“Donald Trump, in characteristically muddled and haphazard fashion, said . . . Bad sportsmanship and manners are not synonymous with constitutional subversion . . . Let us hope that Trump does not become as unhinged . . . It would, of course, have been wiser for Trump to worry out loud about localized corruption, rather than to suggest in conspiratorial fashion that a nationwide cabal was devoted to rigging the election . . . Trump was not quite paranoid in his rants . . . Yet when Trump — however crudely, conspiratorially, and inexactly — takes up this theme . . . still more media and establishment contempt for Trump’s crude and obscene hot-mic banter . . . Such shrill hypocrisy does not excuse Trump’s transgressions . . . many conservatives are outraged far more by Trump’s obnoxiousness, crudity, and rhetorical excesses than they are by Hillary’s concrete record of premeditated criminality and habitual prevarication . . .

No one could read that and think VDH was then a Trump fan. Yet, here we are, 16 months later, and VDH is still the intellectual, but now clearly thrilled not just that Hillary lost but also that Trump is the President of the United States.

The champion of deceit and damaging our country was Obama.

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump

The top Leadership and Investigators of the FBI and the Justice Department have politicized the sacred investigative process in favor of Democrats and against Republicans - something which would have been unthinkable just a short time ago. Rank & File are great people! 3:33 AM · Feb 2, 2018

All of this sedition, surveillance and coup plotting came down from Obama's smug thugs in the DOJ/FBI!

From the OP article:

“A more likely supposition is that it was not Page’s past flirtations with the Russians (who supposedly dubbed him an “idiot”) that abruptly brought him back into the sights of the DOJ and FBI in 2016. Instead, it was his brief and minor relationship with Trump, and his appearance in a bogus dossier, that offered useful pretexts for court-ordered surveillance sweeps and indirect targeting of possible Trump associates.

Page was simply a tool, to be surveilled in hopes of also sweeping up other names and information that might corroborate some shred of the dubious Steele dossier. In that narrow sense, his name might as well have been Jones or Smith.”

I disagree. I find that to be the simple explanation.

Here’s the deal: Read the background on the Strzok “insurance policy” text very, very carefully, pasted below,

“I want to believe the path you threw out for consideration in Andy’s office — that there’s no way he gets elected — but I’m afraid we can’t take that risk. It’s like an insurance policy in the unlikely event you die before you’re 40.”

Strzok was surely referring to his meeting with Director McCabe and the “can’t take that risk” comment referred to the possibility that Trump would be their boss. Good reason to have DD McCabe involved in framing backup.

What’s the backup? Find a reason to justify prior surveillance on Trump in the unlikely event he’s actually elected.

CYA. Not the Russian Collusion thing (a smokescreen). This was a circling of the wagons due to how many this affected. They all knew it. They also never expected the object of their derision to get where he did.

Think about it. I can’t remember where I read the first hint of that scenario (probably here at FR) but after reading all I’ve been able in my meager time, it’s the most sensible thing to all of this: CYA is the logical reaction of career bureaucrats, FBI or otherwise. Page was the perfect fit until he went off public and made them all look like fools demonstrating that Page himself was certainly no “operative” in any sense of the word. Frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if on a deeper level than FBI that he was a double agent (emphasis on “was”) and the FBI fell into someone else’s trap (no, not the Russians’, imho).

Here’s an even better one: An FBI and/or intel patriot (insider) was feeding info to someone inside the Trump camp clandestinely (obviously) and this was the reason for Page’s abrupt exit. He was merely the patsy with all the prerequisite justification until he left the campaign, probably cued to do so.

What happened next? FBI panicked and went after Page with surveillance anyway to prevent the plot from falling apart.

Everything thereafter has been “circle the wagons...”

Frankly, my gut now tells me that this unfolding drama is a gift handed down from patriots working deep in intelligence, those who were keenly aware of the toxic atmosphere pervading many government agencies - including FBI - from the then-occupant of the Oval Office and hatched a plot to expose it all.

This was no Russian plot. And if it was, it certainly demonstrates that they are our friends, not that which many here make them out to be.

Being a white male with white privilege, Carter Page is lucky Lois Lerner and Obama didn't audit his taxes. White men are deplorable.

“Other revelations in this latest batch of texts include Strzok smearing Virginians as “ignorant hillbillys” after disgraced former-FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe’s wife (a left-wing Democrat who received hundreds of thousands of dollars from organizations run by Clintonista Terry McAuliffe) lost a primary bid for state senate.

While his wife received this money from McAuliffe, McCabe was overseeing the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s secret email server.

“Disappointing, but look at the district map. Loudon is being gentrified, but it’s still largely ignorant hillbilliy,” Strzok’s November 4, 2015, text reads the day after he loss.”
