Democrats snag Republican Missouri House seat, lose 2 other contests in special election

JEFFERSON CITY • Democrats made a dent in the GOP's super-majority in the Missouri House on Tuesday, swiping a Jefferson County-based district that had been held by a Republican.

Democrat Mike Revis snagged nearly 52 percent of the vote compared to Republican David Linton's 48 percent share, according to preliminary results from the Missouri Secretary of State.

According to the unofficial results, Republicans still took at least two out of four special election contests on Tuesday, winning decisively in two western Missouri districts.

In the 144th district, encompassing a patch of southeast Missouri, including Iron County and parts of Washington County, Democrat Jim Scaggs led Republican Chris Dinkins narrowly at 9:20 p.m. with 14 precincts left to report tallies.

The Democrats were elated by their flash of success, saying the victory in Jefferson County signaled more problems for the Republican brand going into the November elections.

Roy Moore has not conceded? Conceding or not conceding a race is meaningless in both a legal sense and practical sense. Conceding a race shows good manners and nothing more.

The state has certified the election and his opponent has been seated in the Senate and that is the end of the story.

I have often wondered why people think conceding or not conceding means anything. People have conceded a race only to find out days later that they actually won when absentee ballots are counted or an error in a vote tally has been identified. Even though they conceded, they still won the race and they are the winner and they take office.

Why do you think Moore not conceding means something? Moore is one of the worst candidates I have seen in my lifetime. The idiot even spent the weekend before the election out of state because he wanted to see a football game. For the 2020 Senate election, he can run in the primary and this time he will lose.

Your comment also lacked substance. It was idiotic and you probably don’t even know why.

The Demonrats are on the attack everywhere so Republicans, conservatives, independents and moderates have GOT TO GET OFF THEIR ASSES AND ORGANIZE TO GET OUT THE VOTES.

Heed the title of a book about communism and the world, written about 50 years ago. It was entitled “The Front Is Everywhere”.

Act like it is and organize.

AS for Missouri, they have some hardcore leftists in office there on the state and national level (McCaskill sound familiar? Any Democrat in and around St. Louis and its crime ridden suburbs?)

Don’t talk. ORGANIZE.

I really believe our side is underestimating the energy and enthusiasm of the DemoncRAT base and how much Trump hate is really out there.

That is an understatement. Have you talked to any of them lately. It is way beyond hate. It is deranged seething hatred.

Leading narrowly. That could change as the remaining 14% of votes are tallied, especially since the county is Republican held, and that means less chance of Democrat counting hi-jinx.

Oh yes. Do what you always do. Ignore the fact that we’ve lost 35 seats since 2016 election. Hope that makes you feel better. You are the problem. I’m not!!!!! I am trying to get you to wake the hell up!!!!

WTF?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I've lived in this state my entire live and if I've learned one thing it's to never underestimate the Missouri GOP's ability to screw things up.

After tonight, the Missouri House is still quite red, but Dems flipped #HD97 (outlined in gold). Was a 61% Trump seat in the St. Louis metro area. In 2012, Claire McCaskill carried it by 12% in #MOSen. Dems hold 6 Trump seats in the chamber now. #electiontwitter

We need the arrests and the exposure of the criminals to happen, needed it yesterday, before the losses in Virginia and Alabam.

all depends on what happens next 5 or 6 months with fisa, U1 plus other issues

This ignorance of what wins elections is why we lose. The Democrats have an effective GOTV-Get Out The Vote operation, as was seen in VA and AL. The GOTV does not depend on issues or what happens on the outside. In an effective GOTV, the marginal voter who turned out by the GOTV votes for the person who knocks on his door. These voters do not vote issues. They do not vote for faces on national TV.

This is hand-to-hand political combat. In hand-to-hand combat it does not matter what people in the Pentagon are saying. What matters is the skill of those engaged in hand-to-hand combat. For the most part, Conservative activists are AWOL from the battle.

It doesn't help that some nobody GOP candidate in a local race is a straight up unapologetic Nazi, and getting national press coverage as such. It taints the entire party.

The demoncraps and MSM have their talking point. "The GOP is the party of nazis." How do you fight against that kind of infamy? What's to stop soros from paying other stormfront type pukes to run on the Republican ticket, thus sabotaging the party at large.? (or as much as the RINOs have been sabotaging it from the other left)

Office/Candidate Name Party Votes % of Votes
State Representative - District 144 - unexpired 44 of 44 Precincts Reported
Chris Dinkins Republican 2,998 52.624%
Jim Scaggs Democratic 2,699 47.376%
Total Votes: 5,697

I am so sick of Twitter trash trying to compare 2016 to special elections.

There were more than 13000 votes in HD 97 in 2016. There were 3400 in the entire district tonight. The Libertarian challenger in the race got more votes in 2016 than were cast in the special.
