I am mtDNA U5a2e, earliest maternal I know is from Slovakia.
The U5a haplogroup is one of the oldest. This DNA group 'holed up' in the Iberian refuge during the Ice Age and are believed to have followed the retreating glaciers north as the Ice Age ended, these are the Sami People.
Another old one is haplogroup 'V' also big amoungst the Sami. My mother is 'V'.
52% of the Skolt Sami are haplogroup 'V'.
