The former FBI agent who wrote an opinion piece in the New York Times on Friday explaining why he was leaving the bureau managed to leave out a couple of pertinent facts -- namely that he was a former special assistant to FBI Director James Comey, and that he already had a lucrative job lined up at CNN as a "law enforcement analyst."
Josh Campbell claimed in the piece that he was retiring from the FBI so he could publicly voice his concerns about the "relentless attacks on the bureau from people with "partisan agendas," i.e. Republicans in Congress and the Trump administration.
Of course, Republicans have not ever criticized the FBI as a whole -- just a few bad apples at the top. Unlike Democrats, the GOP has on principle always been very supportive of law enforcement.
"FBI agents are dogged people who do not care about the direction of the political winds," Campbell wrote, echoing his former boss's disingenuous line about how agents investigating Clinton's email server don't give "a rip about politics." Perhaps most agents don't -- but as former counterintelligence agent Peter Strzok proved, some in key positions involved in politically-charged investigations definitely do.
A former special assistant to James Comey might also have a vested interest in defending the bureau and his old boss -- and there is no better place to do it than at CNN, where coincidentally he already had a job lined up. Funny how that didn't make it into the article either.
The Daily Caller obtained a copy of the farewell party flyer for Campbell. It announced his new position at CNN and explicitly said he would be "defending the Bureau on the air.

And Brennan is now at NBC. It’s all lining up.
“defending the Bureau is akin to defending Manson.
Comey didn’t work his way up the ranks of the FBI to become director.
In a Union he would not have been a worker but management.
That he is obviously a transparently hyper partisan Democrat political operative and Obama/Clinton shill does not help the FBI or Comey’s case one bit.
It also destroys his credibility as a commenter.
He almost certainly jumped ship before he was forced to walk the plank and it will be no surprise when his name comes up in the unfolding conspiracy
A wimpy leftist snowflake having a little “Rat leaves sinking ship” moment at the effeminate Napa Valley Grille.
Good.
I say encourage em all (the leftists) to run down the hawsers to the dock and let the real Americans who remain in the FBI bring its reputation back.
Everybody who takes an "analyst" job at CNN "cares about the direction of the political winds" which suggests Campbell's written statement is not factually accurate.
His omission of material facts from his op-ed isn't surprising, it seems like standard operating procedure in the FBI group he worked in.
If you search for “Josh Campbell” at the NYT, the only thing that comes up is his commentary from last week. This strikes me as a serious breach of journalistic ethics. Did they ask him whether he had a job lined up before they ran his piece? The NYT should have run a small item about this development by now and included info if Campbell lied to them. At the very least, he seems to have deliberately not mentioned it. A Fox story said these contracts don’t just happen overnight, implying that Campbell had this job lined up at a much higher salary before he resigned. I still wonder whether he’s drawing a pension.
I think I read today that Brennan has been hired at one of the networks. The biased media are obviously getting their ducks in a row for a full assault on the plain facts as this scandal develops. They need to release the underlying documents, including the FISA applications.
This morning while Fox was breaking the news about the new texts, including one that said Obama wanted to be kept up-to-date, CNN had this as their headline: “Exclusive interview with Joe Biden: Beau wanted me to stay in public life.” Have they lost their minds? Do they have any idea how foolish they look?
My thoughts exactly, as Ouderkirk did point out.
An ex-FBI agent with an ax to grind. Yeah, that ought to make for a bump is the ratings at CNN.
I’ve said for years now the left is staffed with clowns, but NO Conservative Inc. assured us that the left was evil genius personified.
The revolving door between government and mass media in this country strikes again!

Campbell at CNN, and Brennan at NBC - this is MOCKINGBIRD on steroids! This is gonna be fun!!!!
Who in the Hell wants to look at Brennan before 7pm (if ever) That old, white male, 1%er looks like he hasnt taken a dump in 40 years
How can CNN be taken off the air? I have not watched or listen to the MSM for two years. When listening to the radio it goes off 5 minutes before the hour and on 5 minutes after. What if everyone did that and the advertisers knew about it?
