Why FISA-gate Is Scarier Than Watergate
Townhall.com ^ | February 8, 2018 | Victor Davis Hanson

The Watergate scandal of 1972-74 was uncovered largely because of outraged Democratic politicians and a bulldog media. They both claimed that they had saved American democracy from the Nixon administration's attempt to warp the CIA and FBI to cover up an otherwise minor, though illegal, political break-in.

In the Iran-Contra affair of 1985-87, the media and liberal activists uncovered wrongdoing by some rogue members of the Reagan government. They warned of government overreach and of using the "Deep State" to subvert the law for political purposes.

We are now in the midst of a third great modern scandal. Members of the Obama administration's Department of Justice sought court approval for the surveillance of Carter Page, allegedly for colluding with Russian interests, and extended the surveillance three times.

But none of these government officials told the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court that the warrant requests were based on an unverified dossier that had originated as a hit piece funded in part by the Hillary Clinton campaign to smear Donald Trump during the current 2016 campaign.

Nor did these officials reveal that the author of the dossier, Christopher Steele, had already been dropped as a reliable source by the FBI for leaking to the press.

Nor did officials add that a Department of Justice official, Bruce Ohr, had met privately with Steele -- or that Ohr's wife, Nellie, had been hired to work on the dossier.

Unfortunately, such disclosures may be only the beginning of the FISA-gate scandal.

If Nixon had been truthful and not tried to cover it up, Watergate would be a footnote in the history books.

By getting a FISA warrant on Carter Page, they vacuumed up all of the conversations Page had with the rest of the Trump transition team, then later the names of the others were unmasked.

Where does the unmasking scandal sit? It seems to have been entirely ignored after the #ReleaseTheMemo business got started.

Maybe, the hatred for Nixon was such that it would have been big no matter what. The cover up made it worse no doubt. But if you compare it to what “Andy” and his gang did Nixon is about a parking ticket. Yet no big deal with MSM. The press was biased even then but l think it has gotten infinitely worse.

It’s not just FISA-gate. It’s the weaponization of the entire FedGov.

IRS targeting of political foes. FBI eavesdropping on James Rosen (FOX News) and the Associated Press. Dinesh D’Souza imprisoned by DOJ for minor campaign contribution infraction. SEC settlement funds distributed to liberal organizations.

I think this scandal is a lot broader than just the FISA warrant against Page. I hesitate to place too much emphasis on that. We need to remind folks that there is a lot we don’t know yet. Every time a new Strzok text surfaces, that becomes apparent. But we also need to be aware that Strzok was a small part of this conspiracy, too. There were a lot of actors, and they were doing a lot of things. Follow the info we have, but keep in mind that this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Today's Democrats in Congress, the MSM, DOJ/FBI are proof that you don’t have to fly planes into our buildings to harm America!

Last night, Sharyl Attkisson referred to the FISA thing as “minutiae”, and that we need to look beyond the current minutiae and concentrate on the big picture. Sounds like something major is on the horion.

Dinesh D’Souza imprisoned by DOJ for minor campaign contribution infraction.

That's an actual thing with Democratic Party operations.

You can see a pattern going back DECADES. Nixon, Reagan and Iran-Contra (Ollie North), the attack on GHW Bush just before the 1992 election, GW Bush & Scooter Libby, Dinesh, James O'Keefe.

The aim is to paint the Republicans as "felons", which plays into a knee-jerk judgment by 80% of Americans. "Erma Gob yer a crimnul!!!"

I see it on Twitter every day - D'Souza, a powerful voice, is dismissed as a "felon".

Interesting observation: No one in the Clinton or 0bama administrations was prosecuted for the felonies they obviously committed. Check it. It will blow your mind.

When this gigantic Obama/Clinton coup unfolds in it's entirety, and the truth is told about Nixon's actual role..."Watergate" may still be relegated to a footnote.

Any thinking person can see this is a far, far bigger issue than Watergate. This is leveraging the power of governmental agencies to be used against a political party.

OK, wonderful. Now let’s see if the GOP has the testicular fortitude to not only expose what is clearly rampant corruption, but follow it to its only logical conclusion, i.e., prosecutions for perjury, sedition and treason.

The investigations undertaken by the House and Senate thus far have “wounded” members of the deep state and the elite political class, but do we as a country have the stones to administer the coup de grâce?

Democrat voters are OK with Democrat politicians committing criminal acts because the Democrat voters think that the Democrat politicians steal money for them.

Democrat voters aid and abet Democrat politician criminal behavior.

And not to be a Birther, but one cannot help but think that the Birthers will somehow be vindicated.

After all, Obama’s birth cert that he released was a digital one, not an original.

And forensic examination showed that it was doctored up by Adobe Illustrator. Anyone with a very low level understanding of Adobe Illustrator can do this analysis in the comfort of their home:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7s9StxsFllY

Remember Trump broached the Birther subject and manipulated Obummer to release his so-called birth certificate. Remember Trump said Obummer wiretapped him early in his presidency (and he was right)?

Interesting times...

I think it would be very naive to assume Trump hasn't used every avenue available to collect all source evidence. Lincoln interpreted the constitution in novel & controversial ways necessary to support the Union war effort. Likewise, Trump, responding to the clear and present danger posed by the existential threat of treasonous conspiracy, is probably utilizing extra-constitutional procedures.

For one, I would assume a team has already secured both Hussein's and Cankles respective servers. If Trump is already operating under secret military procedures, then espionage committed by traitors enjoys no protection from the performance of legitimate national security acts. If Trump has every last bit of communications - both foreign and domestic - as well as all financial records and transactional receipts, then he's just like a cat toying with a mouse.

I fully expect that each day/week will bring new, explicit and explosive revelations. The entire process is a long, drawn out affair driven by the core objective to win a sweeping victory in November.
