It is not my fault the island let its infrastructure go to hell.
It is not my responsibility to build the islands electric grid.
The fires that ravaged north California were due to poor electric grid maintenance same as the island. High winds brought down electric lines and stated fired because PGE ignored maintenance same as the island.
Oh well, not my problem.
The Keys got their grid up in days because the electric company had installed new main poles wll the way to Key West prior to the winds.
Instead of welfare, spend your money on infrastructure.
To hell with puerto rico.

PR is US territory, we took it from Spain. Remember Pottery Barn Rule, you broke it you bought it. Now we have a responsibility. Did we want it floating around loose for the Russians to infiltrate/control??? I’ve notice that people on the mainland who favor Independence are all far left “Progressives.” Only about 10% of PR favor Independence based on votes.

The gov’t and PR have had quite a while to straighten out the relationship.

Since PR has chosen to stick with Spanish rather than try to integrate with the US, it’s best to give PR back to Spain.

Maybe you are “totally broke”, but in my region a Council recently voted negatively on an issue affecting the poor and homeless and then turned around and voted many $millions to a group of developers.

Ten years ago I was visiting in Miami. At a Publix grocery story the checker was scolding a Hispanic woman for not speaking English. “You are in America now, speak English.” I asked the checker where she was from and she said Puerto Rico.
