GOP senators to introduce immigration plan mirroring Trump framework
The Hill ^ | 11 Feb 2018 | Jordain Carney

Posted on 02/11/2018 9:56:54 PM PST by Theoria

A group of GOP senators are preparing to introduce an immigration plan that lines up with President Trump's framework as the Senate barrels toward a heated debate over the issue.

Seven GOP senators, led by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), will file the bill, known as the Secure and Succeed Act, on Monday.

"Our proposal is supported by the President, who’s come a long way to reach a compromise. This is the only Senate proposal that has any chance of passing the House and being signed into law," Grassley said in a statement.

The legislation mirrors Trump's framework by offering a path to citizenship for roughly 1.8 million immigrants brought into the country as children illegally in exchange for $25 billion in border security.

It would also place new limits on family-based immigration, a key point for conservatives but considered a nonstarter for many Democrats.

And it would toughen interior enforcement, including implementing E-Verify, strengthening penalties for immigrants who re-enter the country illegally after being deported and cracking down on visa overstays.

In addition to Grassley, the proposal is backed by GOP Sens. John Cornyn (Texas), Thom Tillis (N.C.), David Perdue (Ga.), James Lankford (Okla.), Tom Cotton (Ark.) and Joni Ernst (Iowa).

The plan is one of several that senators are expected to put forward as the chamber searches for a fix for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that can get the 60 votes it needs to pass.

Out of the 545, maybe a small handful are worth a shit. IMHO, Rand Paul is one of them. The 2 year budget bill that was just signed is an absolute travesty full of bullsh*t. I’m a supporter of the President, but don’t give me this crap about “having to make a deal”, just to make a deal.

But, this article spells it out, about as clearly as anything can.

Most of those 545 are nothing but the, SCUM OF THE EARTH.

I have read several articles about the Senate immigration debate scheduled for next week.

Two of them said that McConnell or a different RINO will offer an opening Amendment to extend DACA for three years.

My interpretation..

If the three year extension passes, the Senate will vote to kill debate, or they will just have a fake debate.

Do the math.

Three years equals February 2021. Three months after the 2020 election. And three weeks after the 2021 Inauguration.

I have been predicting something like this since 2015.

Whoever gets elected in 2020 will seek a total Amnesty for all illegal immigrants who have not been convicted of a felony.

Only 1 Year, 3 weeks, and 2 days late.

I guess that’s the best you can expect from ~$175,000 per year FLUNKIES!

If Trump does not achieve a significant reduction in net migration from the third world, our nation ends.

I didn’t vote for a pathway to citizenship. As they keep stalling with the vaudeville and the holding dreamers hostage nonsense, the millions here that are having children are breeding millions of dem voters so we’re screwed. A few million here and a few million there are up /s

"It would also place new limits on family-based immigration"

I see The Hill is using the Joy Reid style guide now to describe "chain migration".

I resent web sites who cow tow to the liberal ban on literal and accurate language usage. You can't call them illegal aliens even though they are. You dare not use chain migration even though it's an accurate description because some American black who's ancestors might have come to American 300 years ago in chains might feel bad about it. I don't give a rat's patooty how they feel about it.

Are we all a bunch of Comey's, calling it a "matter" instead of an "investigation"?

amendment to what?

DACA was created via fiat. Was one of obama's EOs and the entire framework that supports it is unlawful. President Trump revoked the eo and told congress they had to fix or all these lawbreakers are going home. adios millions of invaders

Re: “amendment to what?”

Congress is working on a legislative “fix” for DACA.

McConnell is introducing a completely “blank” bill on Monday morning. He will allow anyone to debate or submit an amendment to the bill.

Re: “President Trump revoked the E.O.”

Actually, Trump tried but failed to revoke it. Trump ordered Jeff Sessions to declare DACA unconstitutional.

Only a judge can declare it unconstitutional, so Trump's E.O. was rejected, and Obama’s E.O. remains the law of the land.

Trump's DACA E.O. was a political scam. No judge in America will allow the Attorney General to declare anything unconstitutional.

Trump can revoke Obama’s E.O. any time Trump wants to. The DACA kids and their parents are unlawfully present in the USA. Trump can order the Secretary of Homeland Security to remove all of them. No judge in America could even review an E.O. like that, because that is exactly what the law states and allows.

However, Trump wants to give the DACA kids Amnesty, so he will never write an E.O. like that.

Re: “Wielding it like a sledgehammer.”

Yeah. Against his own supporters.

In 2015, on the first day of his campaign, Trump promised to “end DACA immediately.”

Of course, I have no right to complain.

I voted for him, even though I knew he was lying.

And I’ll vote to reelect him, even though Trump will grant a blanket Amnesty to all illegals if he wins the 2020 election.

Why should anyone believe this will be strictly enforced?

Jim Jordan already said House Freedom Caucus won’t support a bill that includes DACA.

There wasn’t a eo for daca. It’s purely a policy decision not to enforce current law.
