My wife worked in the school cafeteria when she was a child. She fondly remembers government cheese.
It had a pleasant tangy/salty taste to it.
I went to Girl Scout camp and we got “welfare” peanut butter. It was so good, it was sweetened and I wanted to be on welfare so I could get more of that peanut butter.
My great aunt used to get government cheese and would give us some. I gotta say, I don’t know how they made it, but I recall it fondly.
