Report recommends banning fax, email balloting to improve cybersecurity
DENVER After years of accusing states of voter suppression, the Center for American Progress wants to make it tougher for overseas military to vote in the name of election security.
The left-wing public-policy group issued Monday a report, Election Security in All 50 States, that called for stricter standards to prevent cyber-meddling in elections by foreign governments, including banning military stationed abroad from submitting ballots via email or fax.
One state that allows such vote-casting is Colorado. The center called on the state to prohibit voters stationed or living overseas from returning voted ballots electronically.
Regardless of the states secure ballot return system for electronically voted ballots, we recommend that all voted ballots be returned by mail or delivered in person, said the 245-page report.
Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams defended the practice, saying the state has incorporated safeguards to protect the integrity of ballots cast by military personnel living overseas.

"The Center for American Progress (CAP) and its parallel advocacy arm the Center for American Progress Action Fund (CAP Action) are two key cogs in the left-wing policy and message machine. Using the institutional imprimatur of CAPs think tank and CAP Actions blog ThinkProgress, CAPs directors and funders who include left-wing hedge fund titan George Soros attempt to move national policy debates ever leftward."
So the men and women who come forward to fight and die for “election security”, should not be allowed to vote in our elections?
That is not “stuck on stupid”, that is permanently embedded in “stupid cement”.
These rads know that the military absentee vote is traditionally conservative, and they’ve been trying to get rid of it for years.
Just another lib/soros ploy to take over where Obama left off.
You’re absolutely correct, this is another attempt by Soros, commies and Dems (I repeat myself) to suppress the conservative vote.
There are still a few things in our country that we can rely on.
Here are a few:
We can always count on democrats being anti-democratic.
And anti-constitution, anti-equal treatment, anti-military, anti-veteran, anti-self reliance and anti-America.
Exactly, liberals want to silence the Citizens right to vote by American soldiers while at the same time doing all they can to enable the ability of non citizens and illegals to vote in all our elections. Once again democrats prove who are most important to them and it’s no surprise, it’s non citizens and illegals.
Bump!
Thanks jazusamo.
Actually I don’t think ANYONE should be able to vote by email or fax.
The US Military is fully capable of getting a paper ballot back to your precinct on-time.
Given the large number of women and LGBT types being allowed in the military, a good argument can be made that this is a deliberate attempt to prevent LGBTs and women from voting.
“The US Military is fully capable of getting a paper ballot back to your precinct on-time.”
I think we should take this and turn it on them. let the military come up with a way of counting ballots of those voting and then have the military turn in there totals to each state. also have it so the military is registered to vote automatically unless the individual formally request not to be registered. I believe that the military should not be e- mailing ballots or faxing them but having a formal process that is the same for everyone serving so there votes do get counted.
I hear you but the military has had a problem at times getting the overseas military ballots back by the deadline.
Support Free Republic, Folks!
The correct response to such evil requests is: “Go To Hell!”
Give the vote to Illegal ALIENS!!!
YANK the vote away from CITIZENS RISKING THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY!!!!
Sounds about right for the disjointed Left...
That’s a fairly misleading headline.
The group wants to restrict voting “electronically”, not all voting. Though that does make voting a bit more difficult if the service members have to snail-mail a physical ballot.
I, personally, think that all voting should be “difficult”: either in person with a paper ballot, or a snail-mailed paper ballot.
But the “difficulty” should be imposed on all voters (along with a required ID card) and not just the (mostly conservative) service members.
Funny how they weren’t able to get my paper ballot to me in the middle of the Red Sea. I received it six weeks after the election.
Mailed my tax return the same year from the same location and IRS didn’t receive it until early July. Sent me a letter with late fees and interest, so I wrote a nice letter back telling them to send the bill to the Pentagon, c/o the Chief of Naval Operations. Never heard from them again.
Yes, and in fact they have been fighting voter ID vigorously.
Our military can’t vote because Dan Coats says the Russians are attacking us. What utter insanity.
