I’m not questioning your expertise at all. Sorry if it came across that way. I tend to think you’re right about the machine trading. I was imprecise in my use of the language. What I was trying to convey was that in my opinion the economy went into the Great Recession in large part because of fuel prices. And, as someone upstream pointed out, the stock market isn’t the economy.
Sorry if I came across to harshly; it's just that I'm probably the ONLY person on this site who is very familiar with the CBOE, its trading floor ( now sadly an almost barren warren ),its history, etc.! I'm not guessing,imagining,nor even assuming to "know" what it was like there, how things used to work,and/or what set trading in motion.
And I posted what I did, to help others to understand something that is very foreign to them; that's all I was doing.I thought that the facts might make things about the VIX ( which has ALWAYS been programmed traded ), human trading V. programmed traded, and the history of that, might help to unmuddy the waters. This is NOT an easy thing to grasp; not even for those in this field. :-)
