HOW ‘THE STORM’ BECAME THE BIGGEST FAKE NEWS STORY OF 2018
Newsweek ^

Posted on 02/15/2018 11:17:43 AM PST by MNDude

Wild conspiracy theories have a way of seeping into public discourse these days, thanks in part to the divided nature of U.S. politics, the growth of websites that actively promote them, such as InfoWars, and the capacity for fake news to spread virally on social media without any fact-checking or oversight.

Enter “Q.”

In late October, just days before a different InfoWars-inflated conspiracy—about anti-fascist protesters plotting a civil war—was about to fizzle, a user identified as Q on the imageboard website 4chan started posting vague, portentous messages related to an approaching “storm.” The user claimed to be a high-level government operative, and the folks on /pol/, a subsection of 4chan with a history of spreading fake news, took notice—with some even believing it was President Donald Trump himself who was posting the messages on 4chan and on a similar website, 8chan. The “Q” internet posts began appearing three weeks after Trump’s cryptic remark about “the storm.” The anonymous user would ask questions referring to the idea that Hillary Rodham Clinton, Barack Obama and George Soros could potentially be arrested or detained, and would make random claims such as: “This has nothing to do with Russia (yet),” apparently referring to his own internet writings. People started cobbling together the posts and reporting them to one another as clues in what they saw as a larger puzzle. One phrase that gets bandied about a lot on #Qanon threads is “Follow the white rabbit,” referring to the turn of phrase used in Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland and the 1999 film The Matrix, which has been mined for allusions by Trump supporters since he launched his campaign back in 2015.

“Some kid in his mom’s basement is having a ton of fun with the gullible.”

It’s Jerome Corsi. He’s been doing this stuff for decades.

There goes Newsweek again, trolling everyone with their clickbait articles.

Don’t give them any clicks.

Otherwise, there would be no comments from rags like Newsweek.

Poor logic- any opportunity they can exploit to make conservatives look stupid they're going to take- there's no way they could pass this up any more than we could pass up mocking Democrat Underground for their paranoid delusions following Hillary's loss.

Maybe “the press” really is using SecureDrop to coordinate their messaging.

If that’s true, “the press” wouldn’t be happy that Q is attemtping to attract interest from hackers who could start DOS attacks, etc. on the SecureDrop web domain.

Manhattan DA raids Newsweek headquarters
By Keith J. Kelly January 18, 2018 | 2:07pm | Updated

It was a breaking news story — but not exactly the type Newsweek was aching to report.

About two dozen investigators from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office converged on the downtown newsroom of Newsweek on Thursday — taking photos of computers and servers, sources said.

In addition to the newsroom, the fifth floor of 7 Hanover Square also houses Newsweek Media Group, the publication’s parent company — formerly known as IBT Media.

The investigators, who arrived shortly before 8 a.m., focused on the computers’ serial numbers — and walked out six hours later carrying several of the servers, sources said.

The deepstate is caught independent of Q or not Q. Why call out Q. Makes no sense unless shots are hitting home and doing damage.

“You’d think a defining prediction would be at the top of this mind.”

Well Q has made a number of very definite predictions. The problem is, all of them completely failed to come true.

So that isn’t something that his true believers want to remind people of.

That’s a good joke.
