Susan Rice's Inauguration Day email Raises New Questions For Comey

A newly released Inauguration Day email in which Obama national security adviser Susan Rice detailed a meeting with the outgoing president, James Comey and others is raising new questions for the former FBI boss, considering he never mentioned such a sit-down in Senate testimony last June.

In his opening statement at the time to the Senate Intelligence Committee, Comey downplayed his meetings with then-President Barack Obama, contrasting them with the numerous conversations he had with President Trump before his firing.

“I spoke alone with President Obama twice in person (and never on the phone) – once in 2015 to discuss law enforcement policy issues and a second time, briefly, for him to say goodbye in late 2016,” Comey said in his written statement.

Yet Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., earlier this week released an email Rice sent to herself on Inauguration Day 2017, detailing an Oval Office meeting held Jan. 5 with Obama, Comey, then-Vice President Joe Biden, then-Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates and herself.

The meeting apparently concerned the Russia investigation.

“President Obama began the conversation by stressing his continued commitment to ensuring that every aspect of this issue is handled by the Intelligence and law enforcement communities ‘by the book,’” Rice wrote. “The president stressed that he is not asking about, initiating or instructing anything from a law enforcement perspective. He reiterated that our law enforcement team needs to proceed as it normally would by the book.”

The Daily Caller first flagged the potential discrepancy with Comey’s Senate testimony.

Technically, the Rice email does not outright contradict Comey’s testimony. He said only that he met “alone” with Obama in 2015 and 2016. The January 2017 meeting involved multiple officials – but it’s unclear why it would go unmentioned.

In a letter pressing Rice for an explanation of the email, Grassley and Graham posed several other questions regarding Comey’s role in the meeting. Specifically, they asked whether Comey mentioned potential press coverage of the controversial anti-Trump dossier and whether he described the FBI’s relationship with dossier author, former British spy Christopher Steele.

In her time in office during the Obama administration how many emails did Ms. Rice send to herself? How many did Comey dictate to himself? Was this common practice?

The only question is:

Why is Weasel Comey not in gaol?

A lot of folks on this forum praised and lionized Comey for his actions that they felt derailed Hillary's bid for POTUS.

So be it...and he may have had something to do with turning a lot voters against her, but his actions have always been selfish.

I think he thought at the time, that he was going to be caught out and figured he'd p-off as many as he could while he was sinking.

Since he was not particularly blamed for outright wrongdoing (he should have been then and should be now), he recovered somewhat and decided to do what he could to annoy Trump.

Bottom line...the man is a worthless ass and should never have been elevated to the position he was and should not ever have been retained by Trump...for any length of time.

But the worm is turning...

The email also indicates that this was not Obama’s only involvement. It refers to a “follow on” meeting. It also talks about his “continuing commitment.”

Why exactly was he giving instructions on how the investigation should be handled in the first place? His administration was at an end. Was he giving instructions on how to handle it during the Trump administration?

What was disturbing was that they were going to continue to play their games AFTER President Trump was sworn in.

Now we know why Obama bought a house in DC....and who lives with them?

Yep, the point was to give instructions to how the Russian investigation was to be carried on and proceed through the Trump administration by giving Trump limited information into the case and tell him he’s not under any investigation even thought he was the marked man all the time. It’s a soft coup and has been a planned coup on Trump since he won on election night and they tried to derail him even before by spying on him

I think a lot of high rollers have learned a lesson: don’t use email for anything but the most mundane. Perhaps use email to create a false trail.

Comey finally got around to announcing that classified info was on Carlos Danger’s laptop after sitting on it for a month. He wouldn’t have announced it until after the election if he hadn’t thought Clinton was so far ahead that it wouldn’t matter. Comey knew the NYPD would eventually let the facts slip. He thought he keep the fix in for Clinton and provide himself some wiggle room by releasing then white washing the facts.

This should be easy to resolve. Comey took extensive notes everytime he met with Trump and he said he did that all the time.

So he just needs to provide his notes that he took after that meeting. (And where are the notes after the Clinton deposition, still waiting on those.)

I agree. He knew the risk of being caught was great but Hillary possibly getting impeached was also large. McCabe knew of the new Weiner emails from Sept 28, and it was loaded, and they sat on it until Oct 28. This was exploding in their faces and Comey must have realized, one slip and they will try to impeach Hillary after her obvious victory. Republicans did have congress.

Understanding all this, Comey’s Oct 28 actions served to white wash Hillary’s sins, but of course they didn’t. Yet it now was “exposed” and Comey disingenuously verified that were no bad emails, so a potential landmine was disarmed. There would be no toxic leakage after the election. Comey never thought it could jeopardize her victory since Trump was going to lose in a landslide. But then she lost, and Trump won, and the bodies are floating up from the bottom of the lake.
