That I-77 to I-81 merge in southern VA is an absolute nightmare. It doesn't help when you're at the mercy of some yahoo cutting in line to avoid a congestion area where it's posted and causing a lane closure, but really. But if we're talking from a standpoint of interstate travel, I-77 from Charlotte to Statesville is criminal. I've been driving that for 20 years, and they're still working in the same stretches. There ought to be an investigation for graft and kickbacks. No way in hell can it take any SHA planners that long to finish improvements. Someone is pocketing a lot of taxpayer money to drag out that misery.

Yep - when a State asks for more federal funds for such, they ought to have to provide a to-the dollar accounting of what they did with all the money that should have been used for it in the first place.
