Mitt Romney, the GOP’s presidential candidate in 2012 and a former governor of Massachusetts, announced Friday that he would run for U.S. Senate in Utah.
“I have decided to run for United States Senate because I believe I can help bring Utah’s values and Utah’s lessons to Washington,” Romney said in a video announcing his bid.
“Given all that America faces, we feel that this is the right time for me to serve our state and our country,” he said.
Romney pointed to Utah's balanced budget and trade surplus as examples of the state's strengths, comparing them with Washington's debt and trade deficit.
“Utah has a lot to teach the politicians in Washington,” Romney said.

What is the goal here? Does he just want to be involved or does he think this bolsters his resume to somehow run again? He’ll be way too old. This is very odd to me. He must just not want to be out of the game.
He has more ‘to do’? for America? How about for his constituents were he elected? America has enough idiots in DC already.

I detest people who piggyback on someone elses success, of which they had nothing to do with, to try and gain favor.
Personally reminds me of governor (gag) Jay Inslee WA St. 3 decades ago when he was first voted into the WA St house of reps, he still lived in Selah. We were trying to get a program into our school/community & had been raising funds for about 18 months. He offered to help. He had 3 sons in the school district, so we accepted. Bottom line, he almost sunk the whole thing by making a statement to the local press that the funds were raised & the program going forward. All due to him of course. I wrote a letter to the editor stating that wasn't the case. From that point on we no longer used his help in any way.

Actually, this is not true. I am Mormon. I live in Utah. I know plenty of other Mormons who are sick this is the choice (currently) presented. If no one else runs, my husband & I leave his name unchecked on the ballot. Believe me, that makes me sick. We don't trust him as far as we can spit.
Having said that, yes, many Mormons will vote for him. Many because he is a Mormon. I am surprised how many members of my Church here in Utah don't even read about or watch any kind of political news. And no, the Church doesn't tell us how to vote.

Wake up voters...he like easy money and he claims he is worth $250 Million...why at almost 71 isn’t he satisfied..He has a ill wife he should be spending time with, not running all over the country campaigning..does he also plan to run for POTUS IN 2020 or 2024? ENOUGH ALREADY...

The former governor of Massachusetts will bring Utah’s values to Washington.
And a 70 year old freshman Senator. Really a fresh face for the GOP!
Alas not going to happen - he has like an 80% popularity rating in that state.
Therefore, it is important we gain other seats so he is not in control of the Senate. If he alone is a deciding vote we are in trouble. Turncoats are why a larger majority is better than a simple majority. If we have 50-52 seats vs. 55 or more, Romney will effectively control the Senate.
Are there any other good, viable candidates even running??

My gut says yes he’ll get it. Unless the dem running takes it. Right now they are the only 2 with hats in the race.
