The special counsel's office said Friday that a federal grand jury indicted 13 Russian nationals and three Russian entities in the probe into Russian interference in the 2016 elections.

The indictment says that the defendants allegedly, by early to mid 2016, were "supporting the presidential campaign of then-candidate Donald J. Trump ... and disparaging Hillary Clinton."

An announcement from special counsel Robert Mueller's office said that the government accuses all the defendants of conspiracy to defraud the United States. Three defendants are charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud. Five defendants are charged with aggravated identity theft.

Wire fraud and bank fraud. Most likely Mueller was investigating ‘suspicious’ Russian people associated with Trump campaign in any way for ties to the collusion narrative and found alleged illegalities in their financial doings and bank records ...aka like Manafort

“supporting the presidential campaign of then-candidate Donald J. Trump ... and disparaging Hillary Clinton.”

So this is a crime now? I guess all those illegal aliens who did the opposite are in serious legal jeopardy.

Conspiracy to commit bank/wire fraud? But not actually committing it? Maybe that will come later. I’ve said from the beginning, there is a 1st Amendment problem. Russians are allowed to speak freely inside the USA. They cannot vote. They cannot contribute to campaigns. They probably cannot buy political ads (but that is a very unpoliced aspect of the whole business of campaigns in general). But they can say who they like, who they hate, and who they wish to win and why.

The crime is related to money movements. But from what is reported it does seem flimsy. It could threaten a lot more than Russians - which is why we need a wider probe to investigate all the candidates and campaigns.

It’s as the Drudge Report posted today.

There’s a vague law in the books about foreign intervention in elections and they selectively apply that law as they see fit.

George Soros funding the Hillary Campaign - not an issue.
Russian bloggers supporting Trump by buying issue ads - horrible crime!

The indictment says that the defendants allegedly, by early to mid 2016, were "supporting the presidential campaign of then-candidate Donald J. Trump ... and disparaging Hillary Clinton."

That's a crime??!!

From a legal standpoint, what a pointless statement to make in an indictment. Goes to show that Mueller is running a political operation, not a prosecutorial one. whether or not that amounts to subversion of the government is a matter of opinion, but it is no question a subversion of legal process.

Expected subversion, as far as I am concerned. There is no such thing as an apolitical aspect of government. Nothing it does, not in prosecution, not in court, is free of political taint.

So is that Adam Schiff’s evidence of Trump colluding with Russia? Bwaaahhhhhhh....

“The indictment says that some defendants “communicated with unwitting individuals associated with the Trump campaign” without revealing their association with Russia. The indictment also says the defendants posted negative information about a number of candidates during the last general election.”
