...Steele reached an agreement with the FBI a few weeks before the election for the bureau to pay him $50,000 to continue his research, though the deal is believed to have fallen through after the dossier became public (an intelligence community source tells The American Conservative Steele did in fact operate as a fully paid FBI asset.) Along the way, the FBI also informed Steele of their separate investigation into Trump staffer George Papadopoulos, a violation of security and a possible tainting of Steeles research going forward.
The Nunes memo also showed then-associate deputy attorney general Bruce Ohr back-channeled additional material from Steele into the DOJ while working with Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates and her replacement, Rod Rosenstein. Ohrs wife Nellie Ohr worked for Fusion GPS, the firm that commissioned the dossier, on Steeles project. Ohrs wife would be especially valuable in that she would be able to clandestinely supply info to corroborate what Steele told the FBI and, via her husband, know to tailor what she passed to the questions DOJ had. The FBI did not disclose the role of Ohrs wife, who speaks Russian and has previously done contract work for the CIA, to the FISA court.
Ohrs wife only began work for Fusion GPS in September/October 2016, as the FBI sought the warrant against Page based on the Steele dossier. Ohrs wife taking a new job with Fusion GPS at that critical juncture screams of the efforts of an experienced intelligence officer looking to create yet another inside pipeline inside, essentially his own asset.
For the operations audacity, it was impressive: Steele took a dossier paid for by one party, and drove it deep into the Washington political machinery.

The one thing this article doesn't mention is Steele's relationships with certain Russian oligarchs that has come out in the past week or two.
Is it possible that Steele is a Russian counterintelligence asset?
The real foreign influence that the founders were concerned about occurred in 2008 when a non-natural born citizen was sworn in as President.
The founders correctly restricted the office of President to those who were naturally Americans because they simply could not be anything else. Born here of citizen parents.
They wanted to prevent those with divided loyalties, allegiance, nationalities and citizenship from becoming President.
Children of foreign nationals were exactly who the founders were excluding.
The real influence was 8 yrs of obama and enough voters waking up to where the country was after his apologies for our greatness and his condescension toward anyone who didn’t bow and kiss his ring.. and the destruction he did to everything.
Don’t forget the Saudi prince who claimed he funded 20% of Hillarys operation...
Remember that Fusion was simultaneously on contract to DNC and the Russians. This allowed DNC and Russian operatives to come and go without raising suspicion, though considering who was heading up FBI and CIA, nothing was going to raise suspicion over there anyway.
Remember of course that the Russian lawyer who came to see Trump was there at the behest of Fusion and Obama’s DOJ.
Then remember that Podesta and his brother were on contract to the Russians. And remember that the Clintons were bought and paid for by the Russians. Trump is about the only one in this whole scenario who wasn’t on their payroll.
“Children of foreign nationals were exactly who the founders were excluding.”
I can think of no question on which they were unwise.
He got his “information” from two sources that we know of: The Kremlin and Sidney Blumenthal.
Steele should be indicted.
Comcast and Disney going all out on the bogus Russian narrative while helping to cover the Steele related crimes.
One would think that their wisdom would be self evident after the disastrous Kenyanesian Usurpation.
I know why the founders wished to exclude those who are not 100% American, I don’t know why we have people who want to make Anwar Al-Awlaki’s kids eligible.
(born in foreign country to one US citizen)
Yes. Many in the U.K. with its extreme left politics have been wanting to “have a say” in our elections for a long time. Their excuse is a maniacal rant about the U.S.A. being some kind of empire that affects the whole world.
Looks like Steele was the vehicle for their latest attempt.
It's not as though MI6 hasn't produced its share of traitors. Steele has a Kim Philby vibe to him.
