Teacher’s Brilliant Strategy to Stop Future School Shootings—It’s Not about Guns
Reader's Digest online ^ | Undated-- retrieved online 2/17/18 | Glennon Doyle Melton

Here's how one schoolteacher takes time each week to look out for the lonely...

Every Friday afternoon, she asks her students to take out a piece of paper and write down the names of four children with whom they’d like to sit the following week. The children know that these requests may or may not be honored. She also asks the students to nominate one student who they believe has been an
exceptional classroom citizen that week. All ballots are privately submitted to her.

And every single Friday afternoon, after the students go home, she takes out those slips of paper, places them in front of her, and studies them.
She looks for patterns.

Who is not getting requested by anyone else?

Who can’t think of anyone to
request?

Who never gets noticed enough
to be nominated?

Who had a million friends last week and none this week?

You see, Chase’s teacher is not looking for a new seating chart or “exceptional citizens.” Chase’s teacher is looking for lonely children....

I don’t see any odd formatting on my screen; although I’ve been getting the strange letterforms on the Forum page lately. What odd formatting are you seeing?

My 5th grade teacher was a nice old lady, but wasn't a good teacher in most respects. Her husband had also been a teacher, and I had him as a substitute at least once, during a bad winter weather / flu spell in elementary school when the district was short on subs; at that time and for many years before and after, he was the elementary school principal, also happened to be a smart and superb teacher (and a veteran, hmm, must have been of WWI). In junior high I started to dislike school and actually never wanted to go to college, which I never finished, or liked, or did well in. See, I just ended a sentence with a preposition, and I'm sure I will continue to.

Wow, that is strange! Where does it occur in this thread? Everywhere, or just in some posts?
