Regular season NHL OT is 5 minutes of 3 on 3 hockey.

It has gone from 5, to 4 to the current 3.

After that it’s a shootout.

Playoffs it’s full 20 minute periods of sudden death with no shootout possibilities.

I am definitely not a fan of playoff/elimination games going to a shootout. The NHL will never go the shootout route in the post-season.

Never.

In the Playoffs there is No Limit and No shootout. Flyer and Penguins played 3 regular periods AND 5 20 minute overtime periods.
