Not only are schools soft targets, but there are signs everywhere saying the school is a gun free zone. Might as well put a sign on the door saying, “crazed murderers welcome.”

I also blame the federal laws. In particular FAPE--the right to a Free And Public Education. Lots of behavior that should never be tolerated in a school setting are allowed and hidden due to this.

I'm a Paraprofessional and work 1:1 with special education kids that have an IEP (Individualized Education Program). I worked with a very violent 7 year old. You may think "no problem, I can handle a little kid" but you'd be wrong. You're not allowed to really even defend yourself.

The child was diagnosed as emotionally disturbed and his actions (hitting, biting, kicking, spitting, swearing at me and other students) were deemed a "manifestation of his diagnosis" and they kept him in a General Education setting with me trying to protect myself and the other little children.

After a particularly bad bite, being stabbed with a pencil, and a trip to emergency for documentation I'd had enough.

I told the Principal that the next time this child hurt me I would call the Sheriff to file a report. They removed me from working with this student and put another aide with him. Now, he sits in a classroom by himself, on a computer all day with just the Aide in the room. No other students.

He needs to be placed under psychiatric care (he threatened to kill the student I currently work with by setting him on fire at school) but instead the district is hiding him from sight.

I strongly suspect that Cruz had similar behavior when he was 7 years old.

You are exactly what I was thinking of. I know in our local urban school district, the bureaucracy is so heavy, and no one takes responsibility for anything. Recently a girl was stabbed on a school bus. Everyone knew the perps were trouble, and in spite of the girl's previous complaints - nothing happened. Everyone is atomized, there's a million rules and regulations, there's zero community, zero concern and zero responsibility.

Just let teachers with CCW permits carry in school.

That doesn’t cost a penny.

I was told by the Principal that I couldn't file charges against a little kid. Funny, I was told just the opposite from the Sheriff.

Things can be done but those in the trenches need to be able to band together and get the ugly truth of Parapros getting hurt out into the public eye.

The time for protecting the dangerous student has come to an end. They need professional help not hidden away and passed along.

I’m all for armed guards in schools but it won’t prevent all possible s school shootings. The two kids in Jonesboro, Arkansas were in a wooded area and picked off kids and teachers during recess.

Correct...A program could also be set up for teachers who don’t have a CCW but have military experience or an interest in helping to get a CCW.

The problem is much greater though. Schools are now laboratories for top-down social policy and politics. Government at every level has a say. Its a bureaucratic system frozen in amber.

I'll again cite our local district, which is black-hispanic majority. As you would imagine, there is a "no suspension" policy. Policies like this come from the State (NY) and Federal money - and the destructive leftist ideologues who control the money. The few really troublesome, disruptive kids are handled with asinine, empty social justice slogans and policies. My friends who are teachers tell me the alpha males taunt and harass them that teachers are powerless - which is true. 80% of their time is spent on stopping fights, stopping abuse, and controlling the classroom. Nobody learns. It brings down all the other minority students, especially the girls. The solution is to turn the school completely over to parents and teachers. Allow the troubled 10% of the people to removed completely, so the 90% can achieve something in safety.

Jaz - this is related... a student was denied voice on CNN for making the same suggestions:

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2018/02/22/shooting_survivor_colton_haab_cnn_gave_me_scripted_question_after_denying_question_about_armed_guards.html

CNN aired a town hall on the Florida school shooting with Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Bill Nelson (D-FL) that included NRA’s Dana Loesch and Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel that was moderated by Jake Tapper. Students and parents asked questions about gun control and school safety.

“I expected to be able to ask my questions and give my opinion on my questions,” Haab said.

“Colton Haab, a member of the Junior ROTC who shielded classmates in the midst of terror says he did not get to share his experience,” WPLG’s Janine Stanwood explained.

“Colton wrote questions about school safety, suggested using veterans as armed school security guards but claims CNN wanted him to ask a scripted question instead so he decided not to go,” Stanwood reported.

It’s such a no brainier to put guards at schools, and allow teachers to carry but of course the left wont give in to that because it goes against their narrative.

The left wants to confiscate guns. They don't give a damn about students in flyover...or anywhere.

Thanks for your post and the link, good stuff.

Sounds like CNN was not interested in hearing his questions because they didn’t fit their agenda and weren’t prepared to rebut them.

They made a weak attempt to blame him and supposedly would invite him back but am not holding my breath.

Thanks jazusamo.
Speaking at the 2018 Conservative Political Action Conference, Mr. LaPierre said the idea that armed security makes people less safe is “completely ridiculous.”
And getting the excess psych meds out of the schools is also a necessity.

You can’t put armed guards in schools! That would take money away from football!!/S
Priorities are not with student safety. It it were, there would not be millions of illegal alien students in US schools.

That plus repeal of the gun free zone act will go far in solving this problem. Plus there are spiritual aspects that need fixing overall.
