Shannon Edwards the forensic psychologist whose reported extramarital affair with former U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy contributed to his resignation announced Wednesday that she is making a bid for Congress.
Edwards, a Republican in her early 30s from Pittsburgh's Lawrenceville neighborhood, said that if elected, she pledges to be "an active, diligent" voice in Washington who will "fight the tough battles no one else chooses."
Among her platform priorities: improving access to mental health treatment, reforming the criminal justice system and strengthening high school and post-secondary educational institutions.
Under a court-imposed map being challenged by Republicans, Edwards could run in a newly formed 18th District.
If the court-drawn map stands, the revised 18th District will encompass the city of Pittsburgh and dozens of surrounding suburbs including Plum and Monroeville to the northeast, Clairton and Elizabeth to the south and Bethel Park and Bridgeville to the southwest.
Edwards last made national headlines in the fall when Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair, admitted to having an extramarital affair with Edwards after his divorce filings became public.

I think she is a psycho—oligist or like.
“Among her platform priorities: improving access to mental health treatment, reforming the criminal justice system and strengthening high school and post-secondary educational institutions.”
She left out “access to her person!” Evidently, that “access” needs no “improvement.”
“Shannon Edwards the forensic psychologist whose reported extramarital affair with former U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy...”
Oh, but that’s okay. /s
After all, she’s a woman and everyone knows the same rules of conduct do not apply to women.
What the Democrats need is black sirens that lure married Republican office holders into the sack. End up with-child. Blackmail city. Expose them when they get their hair cut(DNA sample) and the hair cutter is one of them. DNC helps them raise the kid. Won’t need too many of them. You mean they’re not thinking of it now? Why wasn’t it ever done with BJ and his black son?
Since 78% have voted that they would not support her (in the site’s poll), I think she isn’t being taken seriously.
You know, one minor tweak to my former statement, as of right now, she is not running for his vacant seat. However, if the redistricting in Pa goes through she would be running for what was part of his former district as the 18th is the one that was cut up.
She’s a conservative who refused an abortion when her cheating baby-daddy demanded one. I already like her more than Doyle.
Murphy was a typical sleazy politician, yes he voted down the conservative line but that doesn’t change what he was personally. Not only did he try to get her to get an abortion, but he also complained about having to give speeches to his supporters about pro life issues, if I remember correctly he was having his staff write these speeches and complained about giving them in his e-mails. Total fraud...
Even most of the Dems in this part of the country are very pro life. Its basically a requirement to be pro 2a and pro life when running here, Democrat or Pub. Of course the Dems then get into office and bend to Nancy Pelosi...
If the 4-3 PA Supreme Court decision ends up being overturned, then we may be stuck with yet another special election in the summer.
With a primary election in May and a general election in November, the office really can't be vacant for more than about six months.
