I generally don’t have a high opinion of public school teachers, but I’d be surprised if any of them would have stood by like those deputies if a shooting was occurring. I’d think they’d have more attachment to the children, or at least a sense of self-preservation. I guess the deputies just didn’t have their own children in that school...
“Id be surprised if any of them would have stood by like those deputies if a shooting was occurring. “
The pychological bond between students and a staff member - call it whatever you wish - tends to compel that person to react when the student is endangered. This is simiar to the bond between soldiers in combat or even teamates in violent sports.
This is a fundamental difference between responding police and teachers in that school.
It doesn’t explain the cowardly behavior of Dpty. Peterson however.
EXACTLY..... my daughter is a kindergarten teacher and she is very attached to her students. She works very hard to be sure they are successful and dont get targeted for programs she cant control. Her students LOVE her and tell her so daily.
If you have such a low opinion on them why would you want to depend on them to arm themselves and protect your kids?
We can’t expect teachers to function as Special Weapons and Tactics squads... that’s too much to ask.
But they should be armed.
If those teachers willing are trained and told the gun is primarily for defense - it’ll work. A killer opens the door and they can defend their students by shooting the guy. That’ll work as a deterrent - it takes way the miasma of ‘gun free zone’... puts killers on notice.
What you said.
