On his CNN show this morning, Jake Tapper raked Broward Sheriff Scott Israel over the coals for his departments mishandling of the Parkland school shooting.
Israel bobbed and weaved, but at one point his ego revealed itself. After claiming that as sheriff he has provided amazing leadership, Israel vaingloriously boasted that if he had been at the school:
I would have been the first in.

... says the Barney Fife, yearning to be the Fredo, of the LEO community.
Doubt it. But even if your self aggrandizement is true, sheriff, unfortunately courage is no defense to incompetence.
Resign, idiot!
he is a Lion just ask him, or is that Ly’en?
...I would have been the first in..
Liar. Damnable liar. Assistant coach Aaron Fels, the unarmed assistant coach, was the first in to put himself between the maniac and the kids while the 4 coward deputies had coffee and donuts behind their police cars waiting for the killing to end.
Coral Springs Police were first in while deputies sat on their butts and cowered at the screams and the sounds of kids dying.
Coral Springs officers took charge while the Sheriff’s department slept outside.
That’s no surprise since BCSO agreed with Obama’s proposal not to arrest those under 18 for crimes ranging from fighting in public, to theft under $300.00 and drug possession.
And as a result of this Sheriff Israel bragged that juvenile arrests and convictions dropped 60% as if some law enforcement miracle had happened.
It’s no surprise his deputies did what hat they did. And why the Sheriff won’t do what he said he would have done.
Governor, idiot Israel on line 1.
So why didn’t you order your guys to do the same?
Hillary just goes nutz at that kind of realism.
Keep up the good work!
The sheriff’s job for years in that county has been to make sure, in so far as high school students are concerned, that no police work got done, NO arrests.
Sounds like a narcissist. No wonder he likes Hillary.
So in a locked barn of sheep, the lion who doesn’t care what they have to say, stood outside preening his coat for display when the sheep bleed out.
Israel coulda played Cliff Barnes (Ken Kerchner) in the Dallas reboot.
I don’t think that was Peterson, rather an unarmed hall monitor.
Seriously doubt that, the cowards in Coward County learned from their Sheriff.
Tapper almost sounds like a real journalist at times here.
Amazing leadership?
Leadership at that level isn't being able to do everything yourself.
It isn't having your organization fail at their most important mission.
Leadership is building an organization that is well organized, managed and trained and able to carry out its mission.
It might have been a good thing for Sheriff Israel to do some planning and training on emergency response BEFORE an actual live shooter event was under way.
That way the Sheriff department wouldn't have to wait until 17 people were dead to find out that you were monitoring security cameras with a 20 minute delay!
And the time to find out that you didn't have the right men in place to confront a live shooter is before he had already shot up a high school full of kids.
He looks like a grown-up Howdy Frickin’ Doody.
