Calls for the Broward sheriff to resign intensify. The vocal sheriff who has criticized everyone from local politicians to the NRA to one of his own officers in the wake of the Florida high school shooting is facing the pressure himself Monday, as calls mount for him to resign amid reports about his department’s alleged incompetence in stopping the gunman.
The heat against Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel is coming from all angles, including from a survivor of the attack who told Fox News that he “failed to act on so many different levels” and from dozens of state lawmakers who are urging Florida Gov. Rick Scott to suspend him.
“Listen, if ifs and buts were candy and nuts, O.J. Simpson would still be in the record books,” was Israel's bizarre defense Sunday after being asked by CNN’s Jake Tapper if the shooting might not have happened if his department handled things differently.
The comment came following disputed reports that three of Israel’s officers refused to enter Marjory Douglas Stoneman High School as Nikolas Cruz was killing 17 people in the Valentine’s Day rampage.
A deputy in charge of protecting the school, Scot Peterson, resigned Thursday after it emerged he himself failed to go into the building, taking shelter behind a concrete column for four minutes as the 19-year-old gunned down anyone in his path. And the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, in addition to the FBI, is continuing to face questions Monday as to why they didn’t do more when multiple people sounded the alarm about the gunman’s erratic behavior.

The four armed deputies were waiting for The Deputy Dog, himself. The sheriff ordered his men to hold position until he arrived. Sheriff Shiny adores the limelight and wanted to BE THERE when they charged the building.
Israel was set to arrive wearing his puffy kevlar vest and camo helmet, sniper rifle complete with aviator sunglasses and that big gold chain he wears round his neck.
1...2...3 here we go boys, as he stares into the lens of a CNN camera.
Instead, the Coral Springs police arrived and had already cleared the building.
But he can be suspended. And he can and should be personally sued into the ground by the families of the 17 victims and the many wounded.

80 or so Florida republican state legislatures led by the speaker of the house have petitioned Gov. Rick Scott for his removal.
Gov. Scott removed a county sheriff from office a few years ago and replaced him with an interim sheriff.

Put naming plaques over toilets, for the Sheriff and the deputies who stood outside during the shootings.... The “Sheriff Scott Israel Honorary Crapper”.... etc.

I believe they had a standing order to stand down.
Deputies were always under orders to not arrest students at MSD High School. They looked the other way as crimes went on.
This culture of corruption caught up with them as the shootings began. Whether or not they were told to stand down is important, but even if there was no direct order - it was implied.
The Coral Springs police officers however were under no Stand Down orders.
If they implemented the most severe backgrounds checks IMAGINABLE, it still wouldn’t have stopped this crazy man from killing those 17-kids, because Sheriff Israel and his henchmen refused to actually engage Mr. Cruz from a legal basis!!
He was never arrested, never convicted; hell, he was NEVER CHARGED!! Therefore, the strictest background checks would have found NOTHING on Mr. Cruz!
Why you ask? BECAUSE OF THE FAILURES AND COMPLICIT PARTICIPATION OF THE BROWARD COUNTRY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT TO IGNORE HIGH SCHOOLER CRIME!!!
He, and his useless “deputies”, need to be strung up (after a quick trial, of course..:)).

Wrong, the Governor of Florida has authority to remove a Sheriff from office, even though they are elected.
Where is the Uber driver ?

True, but under Florida Law, the Governor can suspend him, which amounts to the same thing. He’s going, one way or another.
Governor can remove him.
Who can fire him?
