States, teachers unions resist Trump’s call to arm educators
The Washington Times ^ | February 26, 2018 | Dave Boyer

President Trump’s call to arm more qualified teachers is going nowhere fast with the states and with teachers unions, although some individual teachers support the idea.

A mini-lecture that Mr. Trump received Monday from Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee at the White House was typical of the broad pushback against his idea of putting more guns in the hands of trained adults in schools.

“I have listened to the people who would be affected by that, I have listened to the biology teachers, and they don’t want to do that at any percentage,” Mr. Inslee told the president at a meeting of governors from across the nation. “I have listened to the 1st grade teachers that don’t want to be pistol-packing 1st grade teachers, I have listened to law enforcement who have said they don’t want to have to train teachers as law enforcement agents.”

Republican Gov. Rick Scott of Florida, whose state was the scene of the high school massacre on Feb. 14 that left 17 dead, also rejects the idea of arming more school personnel. While Mr. Trump has said he’ll leave the decision up to states — few, if any governors from states that don’t currently allow adults to carry guns in schools, are embracing such a move.

~snip~

Instead, Mr. Trump turned to a reliable ally, Republican Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas, whose state includes more than 100 school districts where personnel are authorized to carry firearms to respond to an attack

.“It’s not always a schoolteacher,” Mr. Abbott said. “It could be a coach, it could be an administrator, it could be anybody who works in that school. But it’s a well-thought-out program with a lot of training in advance.”

Texas has the right idea and it sure beats the leftists in liberal states insisting schools be gun free zones.

The media keep running with this story as if Trump wants to require teachers to be armed. Then they tell us how bizarre it would be to see armed kindergarten teachers. They completely misunderstand and misinterpret what Trump said and what he meant.

It’s always for the children .... except to defend them. Maybe they should consider a career in law enforcement in Broward County instead of teaching.

Just do away with “Gun Free” zones, and make the psychos guess which and how many teachers may or may not be armed

The only way he will get kids protected is to send in the National Guard.

The problem might be that if you arm the teachers they might vote Republican next time.

Personally, make it a federal requirement that you have to be trained in firearm safety and armed at all times. If the union say no, then flush the union and all teachers where they will be banned for life from teaching in a public school system. Screw them. Parents outnumber them 50 to 1.

Can’t we just break up the country already?

Who can stand such idiocy?

I don’t want to share a government with these types.

I would add a requirement that you had a ccw or would get one within six months of your hiring date. That would keep the creeps out of the school district.

Why do these elitist media heads report it as if all teachers are resisting when it’s obviously not true?

Alrighty-Then!

While I *KNOW* that they are putting words into PDJT’s mouth to fit their narrative this just points up, ONCE AGAIN, that demanding we protect our kids while they’re in, ‘Government Custody’ (Public Schools) from Pre-K on, it’s STILL just Okey-Dokey to MURDER them while they’re viable in the womb.

Got it!
