A federal judge on Tuesday ruled against an environmental challenge to President Trumps border wall, delivering a win to the Trump administration in a decision that allows construction plans to move forward.
In a 101-page ruling, U.S. District Court Judge Gonzalo Curiel wrote that both Congress and the executive branch share responsibilities in protecting the country from terrorists and contraband illegally entering
The case involved the Trump administrations ability to ignore environmental laws in the construction of the wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. The project had been challenged by several environmental groups and the state of California.
The ruling will now allow the administration to issue waivers on environmental laws and build sections of the border wall.
Border security is paramount to stemming the flow of illegal immigration that contributes to rising violent crime and to the drug crisis, and undermines national security," DOJ spokesman Devin O'Malley said Tuesday. "Congress gave authority to the Department of Homeland Security to construct a border wall without delay to prevent illegal entry into the United States, and we are pleased DHS can continue this important work vital to our nations interests.
California Attorney General Xavier Becerra issued a statement saying his office will evaluate all of our options and are prepared to do what is necessary to protect our people, our values, and our economy from federal overreach.
A medieval wall along the U.S.-Mexico border simply does not belong in the 21st century, Becerra said.
Brian Segee, a senior attorney at the Center for Biological Diversity, which challenged the wall, said the group plans to appeal this disappointing ruling, which would allow Trump to shrug off crucial environmental laws that protect people and wildlife.
The Trump administration has completely overreached its authority in its rush to build this destructive, senseless wall,

There will be an injunction against continuing construction while the decision is appealed.
Mark my words.
Wasn’t this the guy Trump twittered some harsh things about?
And just who is "our people" that he is referring to? It sure isn't American citizens!
“Si se puede!”
“A medieval wall along the U.S.-Mexico border simply does not belong in the 21st century, Becerra said.”
Neither do illegal aliens, but there they are.
Name one species that has gone extinct because of building a wall.
99% of ALL SPECIES that have existed on this planet have gone extinct. None were caused by building a wall.
20 SPECIES go extinct every year, and they haven’t even started on the new wall.
CAN’T BE THE WALL causing this.
Becerra...”are prepared to do what is necessary to protect our people,
our values, and our economy from federal overreach.
.....
And you should. But what about protecting ‘our people’ from illegals
coming into the country, taking the jobs, welfare benefits, etc. etc.?
Any ideas as to how to handle that?
I'm thinking more like "Canta y no llores!", a phrase from the song Cielito Lindo. I used to sing it in Spanish classes in college. It means "Sing and don't cry!". Origins of the song once referred to bandits taking over and one having to fear for their lives, abandoning their nests, but the song was romanticized and lost the original meaning. American citizens are the ones being told to sing and not worry about these illegals taking over our land.
Migrating animals are a threat to America. The most dangerous northward migrating species is Homo Sapiens
Well, then tell the MFers to stop entering our country illegally. Here's an alternative, Mr. Becerra, how about we allow our border patrol to shoot to kill, anyone crossing our border at a non-border crossing station.
If they do, make sure that when it’s lifted, they put Becerra on the Mexican side of the wall. Maybe he can find work as a day laborer, if he learns Spanish in a hurry.
A medieval wall along the U.S.-Mexico border simply does not belong in the 21st century, Becerra said.
But medieval gun control laws where only nobles could be armed make perfect sense.
there’s that “our values” crap again
“Neither do illegal aliens, but herethere they are.”
Well played sir....well played indeed.
A medieval wall along the U.S.-Mexico border simply does not belong in the 21st century, ...”
...unless you’re trying to quash medieval behavior.
Not necessarily, as he probably knows that they will appeal and shop around for another judge. All for appearances of being fair minded if you ask me.
