Hunter College is waging a court battle to evict a stubborn student who refuses to leave her dorm room some two years after dropping out.

Delaware native Lisa S. Palmer — who has not paid rent since 2016 — refuses to leave Room E579 at the school’s 425 E. 25th St. co-ed dormitory, according to an eviction lawsuit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court.

The 32-year-old “racked up a staggering $94,000 in unpaid residence hall charges on account of her continued occupancy, all the while ignoring Hunter College’s service of additional vacate notices,” said the suit.

I actually relish the idea of a college having to see what a regular landlord goes through.

Crazy story.

She disputes that she dropped out. But she’s working, and she’s 32, and says how lonely dorm life is for someone her age.

Why does she stay? Because she gets a free place to live, since she doesn’t pay rent? Bizarre.

That's some serious mental health issues going on there.

Take away her guns.

What a bum. No shame, no pride, just a sense of greed and entitlement. I’m sure she has her worn out Race Card at the ready to use if they change the locks and dump her stuff in the street.

Wow, I read the story and sounds like they have more than one squatting problem.
A fat, Croc-wearing entitled person who HAS a job, and they can’t kick her butt out?! Unbelievable, and no sense of shame whatsoever.

If she is a minority it will not be easy to get her out. I smell the ACLU and Mayor Big Bird Deblasio on this one.

Question: Who picks up the tab for her back rent?

Answer: Since Hunter is a Public College, the taxpayers do.

Another university that hopefully will go bankrupt when the student debt bubble pops

She must leave at sometime- just wait for her to leave then change the locks.

That is extremely illegal. It’s called constructive eviction.

Read the related stories this has everything to do with the ridiculous housing prices in New York City. One of the related stories is about a 67-year-old male nurse who had a home upstate but kept his crashpad dorm for decades because he didn’t want to fight traffic coming in and out of the city daily. The college had a deal that they could have the building from the nursing school if they kept a few dorms their for nurses. That deal ended in the ‘60s and several of the nurses just took advantage of the liberal squatters’ rights laws in New York and just didn’t leave. This “student” knows a good scam when she sees one and is doing the same thing.

“I feel very isolated,” she said, noting that Hunter moved her to a wing that’s only occupied by a middle-aged nurse, whom the college is also trying to evict.

huh ? if true, why didn't they move her and her stuff to the curb ?
She works. They have to have a master key. Some missing parts to this story ?

Which is why I would never be a landlord unless the rent was 100% paid for by the state and they would pay for all damages the tenants cause. Even upscale people can be slobs.

“She will win mega bucks from the school if school did that. Wacky laws we have.”

Nope. She signed an airtight contract. The contract has expired. She’s done. They can even use force to carry her out of the building. She is trespassing. They don’t have to “evict” her in some formal process. It’s a college dorm, not a rental open to the public covered by typical occupancy laws.

In most states that’s illegal. Doing that is called constructive eviction. You have to go to court and get an eviction, and have it enforced.
