Some contractor — a friend or relative would probably be the norm — scored $39 million to create constant construction-related traffic jams and install a system they knew would be short-term. Only a couple years of use.
And now they want to reduce capacity by closing an existing travel lane (albeit part-time) and simply calling it a shoulder.
I cannot fathom how horrendous the traffic will be on I-66 for the next handful of years — except for those in the Lexus lanes who get reimbursed for $40 trips each way each day (the toll for only the 10 miles inside the Beltway).
