Cochran to resign from Senate next month
The Hill ^ | March 5, 2018 | Jordain Carney

Posted on 03/05/2018 2:05:50 PM PST by jazusamo

Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) on Monday said he will resign from the Senate next month, saying his "health has become an ongoing challenge."

"I intend to fulfill my responsibilities and commitments to the people of Mississippi and the Senate through the completion of the 2018 appropriations cycle, after which I will formally retire from the U.S. Senate," Cochran said in a statement.

He is set to resign from his seat on April 1, according to his office.

Cochran is the chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. His announcement comes as Congress aims to pass a mammoth government funding bill by March 23, and after months of speculation about his health.

believe the vacancy will be filled in November’s general election

I can't imagine that any state would leave their citizens with only one senator for any length of time. Should probably be unconstitutional.

There doesn't seem to be anyone checking the threads at present who knows what Mississippi law provides.

Cochran to resign from Senate next month

He never should have been there anyway. Chris McDaniel would have won that without the backstabbing by the RINO wing of the UniParty.

Thad is way past his sale date. Half the time he had to be coached in what he was doing.

“Cochran stepping down will make it 50-49 for the interim until a replacement is named”

Considering McCain that makes it 49/49.

Chronic vacancies in the Senate was one of the reasons
cited for the need for the 17th Amendment.
Many State Legislatures were only in session
for a few months every year, and often they could not
agree as to who to send to Washington to represent them.

Songbird McCain should retire too. He’s at least as sick as Cocchran. But McCain wants to damage the country as much as he can before he takes the dirt nap.

Aha!

The old, “I need to spend meaning time with my barnyard animals”.

Somewhere there’s a barn-cam video of Thad and Bessie about to be released.

Why doesn’t Cochran want to be wheeled out as a cold corpse like the rest of them? Odd. Is pizza involved?

Thad Cochran was mentally challenged during his last election..and the Mitch McConnell covered up for him all the time..

He has been hiding his senility and dementia ever since..and is an embarrassment to the Republican Party, as are many..I'm actually almost ashamed to say I'm a Republican any longer...

Maybe Mitch McConnell needs to step down also...they are proof we need TERM LIMITS..but of course that will never happen..

WAKE UP AMERICA...

Don’t remember where I saw it but here’s one article.

Mississippi GOP Gov. Phil Bryant will select Cochran’s replacement, who will hold the seat until the special election. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has urged Bryant to appoint himself, according to a person familiar with the discussions.

GOP Sen. Roger Wicker is up for reelection in November. With Cochran’s retirement, a special election will take place the same day to fill out the rest of Cochran’s term, which runs until 2020.

Thanks. I would be VERY surprised if the governor appoints McDaniel as he should because McDaniel received the most Republican primary votes when Cochran last ran for re-election. But just as the Barbour machine engineered dirty tricks in that election, I suspect Barbour is pulling the strings now and engineered the timing of this “retirement”. I suspect private polls of Wicker vs McDaniel didn’t look good for Wicker for this November’s election.

And what’s this crap about a jungle primary for this Cochran replacement election? Sounds like another Barbour machine “special”.
