Cochran to resign from Senate next month
The Hill ^ | March 5, 2018 | Jordain Carney

Posted on 03/05/2018 2:05:50 PM PST by jazusamo

Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) on Monday said he will resign from the Senate next month, saying his "health has become an ongoing challenge."

"I intend to fulfill my responsibilities and commitments to the people of Mississippi and the Senate through the completion of the 2018 appropriations cycle, after which I will formally retire from the U.S. Senate," Cochran said in a statement.

He is set to resign from his seat on April 1, according to his office.

Cochran is the chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. His announcement comes as Congress aims to pass a mammoth government funding bill by March 23, and after months of speculation about his health.

the backstabbing by the RINO wing of the UniParty.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is why the GOP lost those other Senate seats, not bad candidates. (AL, IN, DE, NV, MO, etc.)
Possibly
“Well, it took a little longer than we expected, but Sen. Thad Cochran (R) is finally calling it quits. The 80-year old has been in poor health for the last six months and it was considered unlikely that he would stick things out until 2020. By resigning now, the seat will be filled in the November general election, though I believe it will still be decided in a non-partisan Louisiana Rules Top Two Format”
From the article:
“Under Mississippi election law, a special election will be held in November for the remainder of Cochran’s term, which runs through 2020. If no one receives 50 percent of the vote, the top two candidates would then compete in a run off.
Until then, GOP Gov. Phil Bryant can fill a temporary replacement, meaning the seat will stay in Republican hands for now.”
McDaniel had better not have asked any teenaged girls on a date even when he was a teenager himself.
Oh, I absolutely agree. They did everything of which they could think to make certain a reform conservative did not win those elections. They do not want reformers in Washington DC, they want the same sort of influence selling oligarchs as already run that city.
They like the Washington DC money spigot going full force, and they will fight anyone trying to slow it down.
If Bryant had any integrity at all he would appoint McDaniel now. Chris won that seat in 2014 only to have them go typo black Democrats to make him lose. I don't trust him or any elected Republican in this crooked state
“Wicker is a cousin of the late Fred Thompson; I would imagine he will win his primary easily, considering the regard people in MS have always held for incumbency.”
Is that scum ball Haley Barbour still the “kingmaker” in Mississippi? Seems like he (and the GOPE in the Senate) were behind all the corrupt practices that kept Cochran in his seat the last time he ran.
Both governors are Repubs and can appoint temp senators so that won’t be a problem as I understand it.
Yes. At least Cochran is doing the right thing by giving the Governor nearly a month to have an appointee lined up and ready to go.
Wake Up America is sadly impossible. We can’t even coax our lazy stand-pat primary voters to bother to vote.
So true; no place is really safe. We have too many lazy, stand-pat primary voters who won’t lift a finger even to vote.
“He’s 80 y/o. I think it’s time. Hopefully, the GOP has someone ready to step in or run for that seat.”
Someone who can win an election would be helpful.
