I’ve followed Kudlow for years- he didn’t have to be bought, he’s always been no borders, both in trade and in immigration. If you know the WSJ editorial page position Kudlow is the same.

Incidentally, I dumped the Journal years ago in favor of Investors Business Daily, not only for the shameless open borders/unlimited wars attitude of the WSJ editorial board, but more importantly IBD give more relevant information to actually make money with.
