No, I think that Hamas is taking a page from our California squatter cities. Any disruption of these poor communities is the intersectional combo of racism (they're Arab), anti-immigrant, capitalist, and anti-Muslim. And, yes, they provide cover for weapons smuggling and infantry quartering under the tents, as well as tunnel camouflage.

Palis have lived in tent cities since 1948 & since then their Arab brethren haven’t lifted a finger to resettle them in other Arab states, for reasons as obvious as this latest intifada. They’re used to living like this.

Israel will fortify the Gaza border wall, turn their tunnel detectors up to max, create defense in depth, and will be ready to repel human tsunamis trying to swarm over the wall. No doubt crowd control weaponry such as water cannon & tear gas will be deployed (watch for gas masks!).

This is an existential threat no less serious than 1967.
